Well I'm not really needing any fast cash or anything but where would you recommend for the most miles? From what I've seen on here Shaffer looks as good or better than most companies. I'd be happy with a steady 2000ish miles/wk. I know things aren't what they used to be and probably won't be for quite some time.

What are Crete's minimums for Pre and post-trips, fueling, etc.?
When I was on e-logs at Schneider, you could ususally fuel and do a walkaround in about 6 to 8 minutes. Pre-trip was around 15, and post trip was usually about 5 or so. -
Tasertot....go with Shaffer or Crete. SS is in a funk, so nothing short of the company kissing his rear is gonna make him happy. Its a driver thing. I've been with Crete for almost 2 years and I've got no major complaints...and the minor ones I keep to myself.
48Packard....Crete requires 15 mins for pretrip, none for post trip and 15 for fuel. That's on manual logs, on elogs its 15 for pre trip and actual time for fuel.
48Packard Thanks this. -
OK, thanks...seems pretty standard to me.

Since his post make it sound like he may have been in need of getting back to work(like he had been unemployed and needed to make some fast money to get his bill back on track) I only suggested that Shaffer wouldn't be the place if most of the drivers I've talked to aren't running very good(ie starving) of the 2(I don't count Hunt when I compare, most flatbed drivers wouldn't look here for an opinion on what it's like over at Hunt) Crete is averaging higher miles, and have been for quite a while. And no, I don't want anyone at Crete to do anything near my rear...I just want them to do their feekin job, and let me do the job they hired me to do and quit mico-managing us to death. In all my years I have never had to look over my shoulder after I make a spot judgement call every time to see if I'm gona have a desk jockey in the office 'monday morning quarterback' everything I do. Even jdzr said it when he made his decision to leave for another company with less micro-managing.
As for the required times...Crete also insists on 30 min for drop/hook and load/unload. If it takes me 10 min to pretrip, it seems stupid to sit and pick your nose for 5 before you move... But the log dept will write you up(according to the log-nag) for not taking 15. And the monday morning q'backs in corporate cannot believe it can be done in less...since most have only read about it in a safety brochure. And that goes for drop/hooks as well, many times I can drop, hook and have my paper logbook updated, and have the e-vir keyed in for the drop trailer done within 15 min. Crete insists it cannot be done in under 30 min. -
Thanks SSB....appreciate the additional info.
I'm looking at five more years OTR tops, maybe less if some personal things go better than I'm expecting! And I think all in all, Crete will be a good place to finish my OTR life. -
I should say 30 min is the minimum...more if needed

I have NO problems reminding office pukes where the money is made. I usually say something along the lines of "You DO understand who it is that makes the money that pays your wage". It will almost always make them hesitate a moment before speaking again. Lets see if we can get every driver from every company to reminding the numb nuts(ovaries) sitting at the desks where the money comes from.scottied67 Thanks this.

Since the "log dept" will write you up for being under 15 minutes, do you get paid for that time or is it given to the company for free? Just curious.

Safety will keep busting you on it until you either stop or they get tired of you not logging what they want and then you know what happens next, as in keep your resume current.
You only get paid when you're rolling, unless you are an hourly employee you are paid "by the mile". Remember the old saying "If you aint turnin', you aint earnin'".truckerim2055 Thanks this.
