It's a shame these companies are using sleep apnea to generate profit. Apnea is a very real condition and some people like myself are in very real need for these machines. However it seems like these trucking companies are using discrimination in determining who they are going to make use these machines

If you test thru the VA and it comes up negative, are you going to visit with a lawyer before you fax off a copy to Crete (with a big 'told you I didn't have it' written at the top...or a big middle finger)...Malpractice, defamation of character and violation of HIPAA regulations for Sleep Point, complicity for Crete. You could retire and watch the sunset from your new ocean front property.

Just FYI, high potassium and excessive tiredness are what my FIL had when they did a full blood profile,(didn't see cancer). They took him off some meds as well (not sure if was a bp med or not)...later blood work is when they discovered he had non-hodgkin's lymphoma.

I got all huffy and talked about lawsuits myself, but don't you think it would have been done already? The problem is, Sleep Pointe does nothing illegal. As far as I know, there's no regulation with the DOT for what qualifies as Sleep Apnea. So, if you fart in your sleep or something, Sleep Pointe says you have sleep apnea and that's that. They need to have clearer and defined laws about this. But, from what I've seen so far, the FMCSA is far too busy making sure us bloodthirsty, sleep deprived maniacs don't wipe out every four wheeler that leaves their driveway... They couldn't care less about a driver's rights or quality of life.

I was there from March of 2013 thru February of 2014. Left and tried a long haul reefer company and didn't like reefer. Came back to Crete the beginning of July. 1st stint with Crete I was not required to take the Sleep Study. But when I returned, in orientation, they chose to require me to take the test within 60 days, which I did. I either want the VA to be able to evaluate the data from the Sleep Pointe sleep study if I or my VA Primary Physician can gain access to that data and the VA make a diagnosis or for the VA to do their own test and make a diagnosis. I will trust the VA diagnosis and follow their directives. Obviously, I won't be earning a living driving a truck until this is resolved.

Actually, a life altering mis-diagnosis is subject to malpractice. Sleep Pointe has to be granted a license to perform the medical test. If they mis-diagnosed a patient and that patient has financial losses, and his reputation in this case is forever labeled, that is defamation. ..and they can not only be sued for damages but lose not only their medical license but their business license...if he can get the VA or a private physician to state that his case did not require treatment, I would sue until they couldn't find a job with anything that even closely resembles a medical facility. I am not just talking about what they did to xls in this case, there have been many drivers that were diagnosed with mild or borderline mild cases and they were never given any alternative options. Sure in moderate and severe cases, either surgery or CPAP is the treatment, but in slight or mild cases there are options...Crete and Sleep Pointe never offer options other than buy our CPAP or hit the road and good luck finding a job. Plus, they divulged privileged medical information about one patient to another patient without the first patient's consent...a clear violation of HIPAA regulations.

Well, unfortunately, I have Crete's insurance, so I'd have to pay at least 2000 dollars to be sleep tested... I can't afford to get tested for that much.

just sayin that was how my FIL 1st found out, not sure what high potassium levels mean or what causes it other than a side effect of meds. With FL's crappy healthcare system, he's probably in better hands with the VA outside the state.

Would it be cheaper to get the test done through your personal physician and then apply for a job? This way you would already have or not have this in place before they question you?
