I'll tell ya.......
I used to dread the thought of Elogs until I got them. Now I wouldn't want to go back. I used to dread the thought of not being in control of the shifting duties but I wouldn't want to drive any other way.
I drive local now in the Dallas area. Going around 635 two to four times a day. I love the automatic in my Mack (hate the truck though). I had to drive a 10 speed rental for a month and cursed the shifter daily...haha! That being said hiring an automatic only CDL holder is like getting a half-asser from the get-go. There's enough half-assers already!

Why on earth would someone want that restriction on their license? longbedGTs Thanks this.

My mDrive is in the shop. Dropped it off last Tuesday and I might get it back by Friday. mDrives are about as worthless as it gets...if I were a trucking company owner, I wouldn't punish my drivers by forcing them to drive one.

They don’t. The CDL schools figured out that if they only train how to drive automatics then their rookies can’t leave them to earn more elsewhere driving manuals.

Once had a kid who came from CR England (and only learned on automatics) who came to my hazmat company and promptly rolled a tanker because he couldn’t regulate speed in a turn.

	They get better fuel mileage
-

About a tenth of a mile per gallon with the significant trade off that the driver has *less* control.

You lose traction in a manual and you can get it back. Lose traction in an automatic and you're screwed.

New driver told me...Crete recruiting told him..to get automatic only on his license..that way he would be sure to get a new truck
-

Trainer I know...couldn't roadtest a new driver...because driver had automatic only on his license...and trainers truck was manual

That’s provided they know how to drive a manual properly.
And we all know they are few and far between
