Ride it out at .42 cpm? 3,000 miles a week... I can work 2,400 miles (assuming .50+.2 safety) a week with schaffer and still make the same amount of money. That's essentially an entire day off. Stick it out? Work for someone who is bidding cheap freight? Bringing down national average and keeping the average pay for truck drivers low?

    My company's a straight .52. I'm getting around 3,000 a week.

Is 42 cpm your base pay or does that include perdiem pay?

In Texas all height signs said 13’7”,but the lights flashed,so I used the detour.

Obviously, that driver could have made it under that bridge with enough momentum. He just wasn't going fast enough.

I heard today that a couple of drivers on the fleet I’m on have been asked if they would give up there trucks so that the new drivers coming in would have a truck to drive. They said they would give them day cabs and get them a room each night...has anyone else been asked to give up there truck?

    Jarhed1964 and dwells40 Thank this.

This seems like something normal that occurs from time to time.

As Crete gets new trucks, they prefer experienced drivers in them, and they try to get those drivers from trucks with @300k miles. That gives the company the opportunity to put new drivers in older trucks, and also gives the shop time to do a disassemble and kiln clean on the DPF filters @ 300k miles.

Maybe so but why not give the experience d drivers a new truck with a sleeper instead of a day cab? Why keep hiring drivers if you don’t have trucks for them? My truck has close to 480,000 and I know another guy on the fleets truck has over 450,000. They must be having trouble getting new trucks.

I suspect you hit the nail on the head. With the whole Covid19 debacle, I doubt trucks are being built on schedule.

If Crete is willing to put drivers up in hotels, I suspect they have trucks coming soon with a firm commitment from the manufacturers.

Now that’s funny. I was at NK last week and noticed they had 5 day cabs sitting. I’ve only seen the one in the last year and drove it on a break down to get the load delivered.
