Their QC system is sickening. I think that's the worst of it. I couldn't imagine going OTR with this system. Sends you a message for everything.

I deliver to state liquor stores in PA. Granted, I drive a day cab and our trailers are 45' X 96 wide (we have a few 102 wide as well), but only a handful of the stores are even set up to accommodate combination vehicles. And honestly, curbing tires is the least of my worries. I have to be more concerned about not hitting roof overhangs, awnings, overhead wires, properly and improperly parked vehicles, and dumpsters. Lots of blind side backing, blind backing across busy roadways, etc.
When hopping a curb is unavoidable, I make sure to get both tires up on the curb to lessen the impact to any individual tire. When I do, I usually have to watch to make sure that the opposite front top corner of the trailer doesn't get tilted over into a wall, utility pole, signage or other obstruction when the tires ride up on the curb and lift that side of the trailer (we have very high curbs here in PA). Yes, many of our delivery locations are THAT tight. There's one location where I actually have to leave the tires up on the curb in order to be lined up properly to unload. -
I have noticed the high curbs some places here. I don't think I have curbed any of those big boys. What are they, at least a foot high? Those are just crazy.

That is an absolutely true story. Check out Jim Klepper (sp) he is a big time trucking lawyer and he talks about that parking along the interstate thing, better be legitimately broke down because if a car hits you, and you wouldn't have been there otherwise, boom big money.Toomanybikes Thanks this.

Can't you claim that you THOUGHT there might be a safety issue with your truck, and you felt that you needed to check it NOW to ensure your own safety and that of others?

I swear you guys jinxed me. I read this thread while getting unloaded this morning in iuka ms, head to Memphis to get a reload of paint from sherwin williams, and i curb my trailer when someone pulled up to the stop line as im making my turn onto Latham st. Had to make my turn tighter and cut the sidewall on an exposed storm drain.
First tire ive cut. -
I'd have to agree.
There's times when it can't be helped, but do it GENTLY. -
Town roads are not design for 85 ft/8 axle trucks. You can't fit 3 lbs of #### in a 2 lb sack.

I don't think much of it anymore. I always feel like being on the curb is better, nobody ever told me that but just my way of thinking. I do LTL furniture to small stores and warehouses. Some of the places we go we have no choice. I've had to run up on sidewalks in downtown areas just to get out of alleys. Trailer on curbs don't bother me as much as my steer tires on curbs. Which happens quite a bit also lol. Just no choice sometimes. Places ain't made for 53' trailer and Volvo 780 lol
Pumpkin Oval Head Thanks this. -
I have to run over two curbs everyday at a small post office. One of them twice. One is straight out from the dock. No choice. Just slow and easy does it.
Pumpkin Oval Head Thanks this.
