I'm sure it's probably most state laws. Slow vehicles to the right. Not many follow it though.

I've had a philosophy on 3 lane roads. See, it used to be that if you had 3 lanes, everybody could use all 3 lanes. In recent years, most states have went to where trucks have to stay in the 2 right lanes. When I'm on a 3 lane interstate, I don't cut 4 wheelers and slack in the 2 right lanes. I figure that if they want to have the far left lane for 4 wheelers only, let them go over there if they don't want to deal with trucks.

However, I DON'T think that precludes someone from passing someone else on the right that's going 10 mph below the speed limit in the middle lane. I'd pass a tool like that on the right too. -

I smile, wave and wish them a happy day because I couldn't care less if they are happy. All I care about is they are still alive, preferably uninjured and without damage to their vehicle. Any day I don't kill someone is a good day as far as I'm concerned. I do what I must which most often is nothing. That makes me predictable.
I view it like walking. I assume their goal is to run into me and my goal is prevent them from doing so.born&raisedintheusa and Ranger309 Thank this. -
Not being able to properly merge is one of my biggest pet peeves, yes most of the 4 wheelers are dumb #####, however this is all made even worse by all of the "trucks in right 2 lanes only" BS, what idiot ever came up with that (in city limits) should be hung, if anything trucks should be in the outer two lanes since "most" of the truck traffic is going through anyway.
I would much rather deal with a line of trucks even running less than the speed limit than having to deal with people that can't judge speed and distance.longbedGTs Thanks this. -
As professional drivers, its up to us to do the driving for all the idiots that are allowed to drive
cars, SUV's and pickup-trucks. As for dealing with mad drivers, I learned to ignore them early on.
Nothing pisses off a motorist giving you the finger, then smiling at them and waving at them!Roberts450 Thanks this. -

In western Europe, though, you're required to stay as far right as possible, and you cannot ever pass on the right, for any reason. Someone's lane hogging the middle and you're on the right? You have to make four lane changes to pass them, and yes, it is enforced. Oh how I wish that's the way it worked here. -
California seems to be the capital of self serving, holier than thou, “#### you I got mine” spoiled snobs. They expect traffic to get out of THEIR way and let them in... this is especially true of the bmw/Mercedes/Audi/Volvo/big expensive SUV/rice burner/ RV/other expensive car drivers there. I had one lady sit next to me driving along the shoulder playing with her phone, which annoyed me to the point where I started laying on the air horn. She then immediately stuck her arm out the window indicating my #1 status, and tried deliberately to swerve into my hood. Luckily I had already backed of by then or the stupid #### would’ve turned herself into a very expensive hood ornament. Then she went on to do the same thing to a few more people. That’s one state which needs to either get rid of that stupid 70/55 limit or do the rest of the country a favor and get hit by a magnitude 20 earthquake.
