I am prepared to adjust my thought processes re: e-logs, if I want to lease onto one of the companies that require them. As for Mercer, my question was simply asked about their policies, which you answered. I wasn't arguing against those policies nor judging Mercer because of them. I read somewhere that Mercer's EOBRs were less intrusive than LS. I guess it doesn't really matter. If one does one's job, one shouldn't worry. I just want to be successful and get away from temp controlled.
I'm not sure how lancaster does theres. Here we use an app for either an android phone or tablet. Pretty simple from what I understand. just plug it into the ecm port in your cab and go. Oh, and it's also ridiculously cheap cause there is no hardware to buy. Just the adapter cord.

I'm your age, spent 4 yrs. w/Landstar, and am now at Mercer. Landstar is a good system, but if you are just jumping into the owner-operator pool, I think Mercer provides a far better support system. That's really the biggest difference between the two. Mercer pays quicker, you'll have a load coordinator (yet still maintain your ability to choose what you will or won't haul), and esenyially the samr 'benefits' of fuel and parts discounts.
