Anybody have a sure fire method for getting reimbursed for DEF purchases? I've payed $75 out of pocket and never been reimbursed for it. Sure seems foolish that they will have you buy the jugs at around $5.80 a gallon when it is sold at the pump for around $2.80 a gallon.
Been thinking that if I get away from a terminal and need DEF I might just let it run out and call Onroad instead of losing my money on it.![]()

I've not had to deal with that, but I have had success with just writing the trip number, truck number, driver code and trailer number on the receipt and scanning it in with the load bills of lading and gotten reimbursed that way for oil, coolant, lights etc.

You might want to check with your DM.
There was a QC about that a couple weeks ago. You need to get a PO number and stuff.
I've always found that I could hit a terminal somewhere in that last half tank. -
You have to get a PO number from your DM. Went through this as a company driver. Also, top off tanks whenever you're at a terminal.

Or you do what I did, you lease your own truck. That way you can pay for DEF at the pump with your Comdata card, just like every other trucking company...except Swift lets their company drivers do. FWIW I used to drive a company flatbed Cascadia with a tiny little 10 gallon DEF tank, was forever trying to find DEF for that truck. My lease truck, a 2012 Cascadia has a 23 gallon tank. I find myself filling it about once a week.
scottied67 Thanks this. -
Note on Lease Trucks: It's cheaper to buy the DEF through Swift. Just FYI. I fill up every week at the Laredo terminal.

Also to the OP.... if you do need DEF on the road and can find a bulk station, just go in and prepay on your pump for bulk DEF in cash, get a receipt and put your truck, driver code, trip number and PO number on it. Swift will reimburse and you will get more bang for your buck.

Curious, how much is it a gallon at the terminals? Its' been $2.99 a gallon at every Pilot/Flying J I've seen it at the pump for the last month.Last edited: Jun 26, 2012

I'm paying $2.25/g at Laredo. It was flexing depending on the supplier of the terminal, but I was told Swift should be getting on board with one nationwide supplier so prices will remain stable at the terminals.
