I just looked it up on fmcsa 392.82 and its says the fine is up to $2,750 for driver and $11,000 for company. A hands free device is ok if its a one touch activated device or voice command device. And of course no texting either.

Key words "UP TO". That's not the typical fine. But yes, it's a serious offense. But no need for fear mongering by insinuating that that's the fine, no matter what

I think its good info to put out there for drivers. You could possibly get the max fine. I would bet that alot of people think talking on cell in a truck is a $50 fine like in a 4 wheeler.

Recruiters have a 'GO' - "NO GO' list of violations. It is black and white, the list is created by the insurance company. Look at smaller fleet operations for a job, you will be far happier.

Agreed. None of us should be driving while distracted. It's "probably" gonna be a manageable fine- but it COULD be a fine that could break you.

Your point is valid- is that a chance worth taking?! Not to me!

TWT is a good starter outfit. Head and shoulders above Swift and May. They run nice equipment, mostly 14 and newer KWT680s. I worked for the flatbed side of the company when I started and it WA s a nice place to work.

Palmer is owned by Wil-Trans. Don't know about Palmer specifically, but Wil-Trans basically runs you teaming for 5 months at wages that would embarrass SWIFT as a new hire with less than 2/years exp.

Don't bother trying to prove you're a a "good person".......just BE a good driver!......the company always thinks of us in a dimmer light.......

While the driver gets the fine for using the phone, the carrier gets their fine for "allowing" you to use your phone. They go into court with their written policy prohibiting the use of mobile devices and try to beat it by saying "We DON'T allow it" to which the prosecutor says "well, sure it says that in your employee handbook...but you hired him with this violation already on his record, and he's still working for you, so obviously you don't enforce your written policy and therefore are guilty of allowing the use of mobile phones." Then the company writes a very large check.

By not hiring you with that on your record, and by terminating you if you are caught using your phone while driving their truck, the company can go before the judge and honestly say "we DON'T allow it".

Is it silly? Sure. Most things coming from the government are. Doesn't change the fact that those are the rules we've got to play by. Some companies simply don't want to take that chance. Others don't care.

Wonder if it was the same recruiter Allie Knight hosted on her truck for a week to give the recruiter a feel for what it's like being a trucker.

It's already been 2 years ago this violation so no need to wait three more years again like some are saying, just one more year for it to fall off your MVR.
