My 97 fld 11.1 s60 detroit cranks forever before it starts. Then it chokes a second and smoothens out. It does smoke right when it starts. I replaced check valve on back of the head. Theres a check valve in the fuel pro filter system im going to replace. But what else is there to look at?

Sounds like injectors are leaking down. May need new ones. The extra long cranking comes from the loss of fuel between the supply pump and the injectors. Same scenerio as when you have to fill a fuel filter after changing it. It takes some cranking before fuel reaches the injectors again.

Engine has a new wiring harness. Wouldnt that include the injector harness?

Do you have a Davco Fuel Processor?

I had a similar problem except I don't know how long forever cranking is in time, but longer than normal, I assume

If the Davco check valve is dirty and clogged it will cause a hard starting issue..

I replaced my check valve too, but it was still having the same problem.

I have a Davco with a heating element, i dont know if yours is heated or not. If you look underneath on the older Davco units, they have a nut like plug (hexagon) threaded into the base. If you unscew that plug with a socket, there is a O-ring attached to it.

That O-ring over time gets dried out and starts leaking fuel or letting air in. That will need to be replaced.

I had to contact Davco for the part # as it is not listed in their parts catalogue or as a Davco Serviceable part.

You will need the part number from them and you will need to go to a place that sells O-rings and give them the part #. They will sell you the exact part you need.

It was a 50 cent part and it fixed my hard starting problem.

I dont think it has a heater.. But its an $18 part maybe i should change it like i planned before. Just wanted some ideas cause it will stumble and push out a bit of smoke.
