That driver has got to be grateful. I am very happy for him also thinking ......well now, being on the road is looking pretty dangerous. Maybe he is one of the people we can see. Looks like one may be jumping for joy ! Bet it is him!

I believe you ! You gave me a laugh. I would do the same, wake up , think , Oh it is a quake , and go back to sleep. I was a kid though.
When I got older and was woke up by an earthquake all by myself, I was shock up ! :)

I think the fear comes from the unexpected and not being in control. More people feel safe in their vehicles , yet die in numbers higher than any earthquake.
But we have illusions of being in control in our vehicles, and with ourselves.
Considering we all are living on a crusty ball of hot lava, we are doing pretty dam good. :)

Not too far from the San Andreas. It's only a matter time before the Bay Area or L.A. are devastated by a major quake. No doubt it would be one of the most expensive disasters in history.

I think the big one in Los Angeles is going to be tame in comparison to the big one in the PNW.
The reason being the layout of the land.
In southern CA. it is sliced up with faults, but are few islands , the land has stayed solid.

In the PNW their coast is where the tectonic plates are fighting it out, and it has already broken up the land into islands and lots of them.

I think about keeping Drivers safe and I hope they beef up everything about our bridges and over passes. Some would not stay up if if the earth it is built on is separated much. Take the overpass from the 60/10 in California going to the 15 to Las Vegas, That is one place I don't ever want to be in a quake, however it was built knowing they have quakes, so it is a toss of the dice.
Like the picture JC1971 show with the truck that was on a bridge is incredible. Those survivors had to be rescued by Helicopters I bet.
