I wouldn't. I want to only pick kick ### superstar real truckers who don't cry in a Flying J lounge every night to pull my loads.

Right now most are limiting it to 90 days that won't work with new authority. My 90 is almost up, and I'm working with some crap brokers, but at least I'm hauling freight and making some money. My direct clients are slowly coming together so I won't have to deal with brokers much longer.

I have been using the Convoy app for backhauls and finding that it works great. They don't care about the age of your authority, and you get paid in a couple days with no factoring fees. I've hauled around 6 loads through them and they were all were paying quite a bit more than the spot market rate in my region..

I've had the same thing happen. But I thought it was 2 or 3 in so many years. But maybe it was 1 in the last 12 months. Whatever it was the load wasn't good enough to volunteer.

When you call a broker ask them for their requirements. All brokers have some sort of requirement such as:

    - 0, 3, 6, or 12 months with your MC #
    - 0, 3, or 5 references
    - 750K or 1M liability insurance
    - CSA report
    - General liability (possible)
    - Insurance A.M. Best rating (possible)
    - Inspections received (possible)

Most brokers may reject you, but there should still be plenty of brokers out there that work with new motor carriers. It is not difficult, just a hassle to find the brokers with less requirements and then fill out their packets.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I really appreciate it! I am definitely going to keep all of them in mind. I'm currently truck shopping so I have some time to plan but I prefer to have a game plan in place before I even get started. The last thing I want is to get out there and struggle needlessly until I start making contacts.

When looking for brokers, be careful who you apply to. Some load boards provide information about brokers such as how long they have been in business, their credit score, days-to-pay, reviews, ratings, etc. I recommend you stay away from brokers who have less than 3 years, take more than 39 days to pay, or have a low credit score. The credit score is usually correlated to the days-to-pay. So, find the brokers with less than 30 days-to-pay if you don’t have access to their credit score.

Generally brokers are always looking for carriers. If you have a good safety rating they will probably do business with you. If they turn you away just find another broker.
As a trucker/dispatcher/etc you should always focus on their credit score and DTP. Like PE_Trains said, they are correlated. They're paying you, so you want to make sure you close the gap from delivery to payday as much as you can.

I think they meant trucks, not drivers. But usually a truck is closely associated with the driver. Sometimes it may be just a seat warmer, or a steering wheel holder.
