LOL. My 2 buddies I go with fly out from Delaware every year, I come from Oklahoma. I stop and pick them up at the airport in Indy on my way on Thurs morn, drop em off on my way back home on Sun morn. Great time while we are there. When I lived back east we'd drive out there to Eldora just to watch a race and went all over out East to tracks all over.

You know Tony bought a very large house up at Indian lake for his team to stay at when they aren't at the track

We used to go to MMS (Mansfield Motor Speedway) EVERY weekend in the '80's and '90's, when there were a ton of big names out there. I thought about inquiring, but never did. Ever since Dzurilla (sp?) sold it to Milliron it's not much of anything. They are tearing up the asphalt now, and gonna make it a dirt track. Yay. Dragway 42 in Ashland pretty much fell apart as well. (Eldora is a little far from me.) I still go to Norwalk on occasion, and I'm sure there's opportunities there, as well. Danica's been out there a time or two; I've got her autograph..was a "Night Under Fire" event. My buddy dragraces a motorcycle on the 1/4 mile and holds many records. 190 mph on a Nitrous-induced 1200 Suzuki~ (no thanks on that!)
Back to the original inquiry, and as many have said on a serious note (*sorry about the popcorn*) it's all about being at the right place at the right time. It's how I got my current gig. Yeah, I had years of experience, OTR and the like, but... who's to say even as a newbie I would'nt've gotten it??!!

Aim high.....shoot for the stars. Be careful jumping thru hoops however, lest 'ye get stuck.

    Best to ya, man.

Driving to and from the track is a small part of their job. They have to maintain the extra parts and pieces on the hauler, then get sent for items while at the track, getting ice to cool down the racecar, etc. They also have to show up daily at the health club and workout. Sometimes they can fill in for a pit crew member on the lower rated teams at the track. And whatever else is required.

No I didn't know that but I'm not surprised. One of my buddies was talking to one of the guys that take care of the track there and he said Tony is great to work for, shoot, he even drives one of the tractors or cars that pack the track in before the race and on intermission, he's not afraid to get his hands dirty.

Take this with the fattest grain of salt you can find.

I talked with a kid maybe a month ago that was working one the stores on my route. He's picking my brain about driving trucks and etc. Then he let's loose that he just got his CDL and was going to work for a race team in NC. I ask when he starts and he says his background/drug test hadnt come back yet (aka you dont have a job offer yet). Not believing this kid landed some NASCAR glamour job right out of school, I ask if he'd considered working a different segment of the industry to which he stuck his nose in the air and pompously declared that he worked in the motorsports industry. Looks like you work at a paint store to me, kid. Good luck with it. I don't think he liked that much.
