I am wondering if someone like myself could work for one company that has all kinds of different runs available. I would love to do long haul OTR for a month, do some local or regional and if I make a good friend with the company, maybe do occasional team runs. I might never want to commit full-time to doing only OTR but it might be nice if I need some extra cash and do that for a month here and there. I just wondered if companies only want to hire for one kind of driving or do they allow for this kind of flexibility? I would prefer to stay with one company being this flexible instead of job hopping trying to find what makes me happy! I do have a family so regional is my first preference.

pretty sure OTR just means you’re going anywhere you could get some local loads from time to time. I get a couple from my company whenever I’m in Denver or one of the big cities in Texas.

Regional is just staying within a region usually in the same region you live in.

As for solo or team I think it would be inconvenient swapping over constantly. I myself prefer solo I can fill the truck to my hearts content with my clothes, food, tools. But when you’re teaming you have to leave some room for the other guy.

NOW if you live in the south east section I know my company does South east regional which just means they prioritize you staying in the southeast but from time to time you might get a load out of that region. Normally this is what drivers in my company chose to do if they don’t want a NYC load.

I pull loads anywhere from 15 to 1500 miles one way. It all depends on what they need delivered. It comes down to customer service.

You may want to check into LTL companies. They do local P&D, Linehaul, Team runs... Might be able to find a company that gives you options like your looking for.

I ran a lot of local and regional running chemical tanker. But if I wanted to go otr and run the system for a week or two, all I had to do was tell my dispatch. A lot of tanker terminals are like this.

I do best long haul, however I have done everything in a 18 wheeler road truck all the way down to yard jockeying a few days even. However, in my time you changed companies because many I ran for were not that big to be all inclusive. Ive picked up loads and delivered 40 miles away sometimes, take two days to do it. (Live load, then live unload after a hour driving)

To me the best money is in drop hook or instant unloading at either end. There is no money in live docking a semi. It takes too much time away from your mileage potential of the 70 hour week HOS.

Bottom line, Ive done all types of runs, its a matter of what the load is going and where. Ive got a shipment coming, that has not yet made it out of California despite being paid for 4 days ago. Sitting in a semi trailer still.

DOT Foods has all that. Problem is they're not close enough to you. Try some other food service companies. Sometimes food service companies have a variety of runs, plus teams and solo runs.
