And if so, what's a good app or website to use? I'm stuck on I95 south. The traffic isn't moving at all. I'm trying to see if there's a way to avoid situations like this in the future.

Most GPS navigation show traffic update. Nothing is perfect. I'm using Copilot truck navigation. It shows traffic delays 60 miles ahead. It not always correct. Garmin has similar info . Google maps is probably most act but it not truck routing. A CB is good for that also

    - GPS with traffic update
    - CB radio kept on
    - Google maps
    - Waze app
    - weather app with zoomable radar

GPS and Waze will often show time-saving alternate routes, but not always the best ones. Before long you'll start to develop a knack for coming up with your own alternate routes, which again, may or may not be the best, but are still better than sitting in traffic.

Why would you NOT check traffic and weather along your intended route before
    You leave?

    that’s just normal trip planning.

At least it is for me ,

And I get paid to drive a chevy Silverado nowdays. Not a big truck anymore but I still always check the Google maps for traffic jams and a weather app for the radar and storms , because those will cause traffic problems and accidents .

and I run WAZE in the background for the speed trap info .
    And a CB.

This is Copilot truck navigation with live traffic update. I think they have free trial. Copilot has trouble getting the exact location of an address. I always double check on google maps looking for the actual truck entrance. My company is paying for it, so that why I still use it. It has good routing most times. I seen some new latest Garmin OTR 1000 it looked really good also. It was very expensive.

You can see the live traffic Copilot showing green, no backup for 60 miles.

Some of you guys just don’t know how to have fun.

OP, you can ignore all these yahoos. While these nerds are glued to their electronic gizmos looking for alternate routes, you’ll get a first hand look and, hopefully, some headline catching pics of the carnage causing the backup.

Worst case, you’ll get a good shot of Joey Bag of Donuts’ (the construction flagger) plumber’s crack that you can post on the internet for all to make fun of.

What could make your day better?

Trucker Path, which incorporates traffic flow info from Google Maps and adds truck stops.

I run with Google Maps, it’s absolutely the best at real time traffic information. I also keep Hammer running in case Google Maps shows trouble and I need truck routing around it.
