Heck I had to double-clutch in school and to pass my cdl test. Now i float all the time except when i come to a stop or a dead start.
Do you float gears or double clutch?

You're green as a freshly dollat bill, you're not suppose to get the hang of floting.Wait till you're a good shifter then it'll be easy.
-
I have never double clutched been driving for 20 years. I fined it much smoother.

I like having a left knee.

I'm learning to float, but I do much better double clutching...
-
i like my automatic, I had enough shifting with my quad box in the 70's
I dont limp at all -
Well I finished school and the double clutching is second nature. Have no idea how to float. Lol

It's really no different, except you don't use the clutch. I don't know why some people make it out to be more complicated than it is.

I've been dbl clutching more lately. Just because of this thread.
Know what I noticed? That AFTER learning how to float, I double clutch better than I did BEFORE learning.
NOW I know more about speed/rpm/gear than before.
FWIW -
I usually drive an 18 Speed. I always float except, when shifting under a heavy load I will give the clutch just a little tap.
I have recently drove a 10 Speed for 3 weeks while my exhaust regen system was being fixed, I HAD to clutch. Not a very enjoyable transmission.
I prefer my 18, although, definitely more gears then needed. I typically don't split the bottom except in very slow traffic.
I used to drive a 12 and that was pretty much perfect.
