Do you really need to pass?

I drove slow governed trucks for a few years. Any time I see somebody trying to pass that I can tell is having issues I kick off the cruise, give them 3MPH and let them pass. Not worth the potential wreck.

You're doing the exact same thing as the person who won't alter their speed to stay behind you.
Pot/kettle.
Again though, it's all about staying safe out there. Like you, I have much video. Unlike you, very little of it has me close to another vehicle and in a dangerous situation.PermanentTourist and Longarm Thank this. -
Exactly why they need to keep trucks governed to less than the speed limit in the far right lane and restrict passing.
Putting ridiculous governed speeds on trucks should be fine but the rest of the public shouldn't have to pay the price of their nonsense.

That is one time I would welcome the gooberment stepping in and demanding changes, and who better to bring that about than "the rest of the public". Trucks limited to 62 mph or some other idiotic level have no business on a freeway where the speed limit is 75.TripleSix, Al. Roper, KB3MMX and 1 other person Thank this. -
I would like to see sensors in all the trucks that force the engine to be limited to the exact speed limit, the sensors on the speed limit sign itself sending the electronic signal to the engine. then have bumper sensors that force the trucks behind to stay back the proper following distance like they are supposed to since there are entirely way too many idiot truckers out there trying to pass 1 mile per faster.
It is monumentally sad that we have to resort to governors and sensors to keep people's speed in check. It speaks to the outlaw spirit of the American trucker who refuses to comply. You don't see this behavior in European trucking.Last edited: Dec 31, 2016

Is that going to include all vehicles with an engine? I don't see how that would work, some people may not be comfortable driving a truck 75mph. So they drive slower, no two people drive exactly the same. It would cause the same problem we have now on a larger scale, and more useless technology that would cost a fortune to fix when it inevitably breaks.

We have the technology to limit too the speed limit of the area now ... Most gps navigation already know speed limits and many new trucks are equipped with gps capability...

This is the worst argument I ever hear. I'll pass everyone I can. My Schneider will go 61 cruise/64 pedal. I'll get on the pedal and go around. My personal favorite to pass though are the swift trucks that are going 60 and as soon as I get halfway around them speed up to 63.
The math of this argument is what makes it silly. There are other factors other than the governor. If I come up on a jb hunt that's going 62 but can't pull a slight incline without slowing down to 60 and there are small hills everywhere for example. It's very rare to actually see a truck take five minutes to pass another one. Most times it's 30-45 seconds and the only person it inconveniences is the ungoverned guy going 75 in a 60 anyway.
