I am not employed in trucking just yet. I start the end of this month with a company. I was just curious is all if it's worth going with a company that has many terminals around rather then one or two.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
The one danger about parking at a terminal is those yard checks. Because once the shop see's your rig in there your subject to being pulled in if anything shows up on the computer as due. I once went in to our Elm Springs terminal with an empty trailer. I lost my next load because the shop saw my reefer needed service and there was no other trailer available. Before I knew it there was a red tag and glad hand lock on it. Another reason to avoid terminals is Safety. I was just about to pull out of a terminal once and got stopped by the company safety man there because I needed to do another driving test. Except for your home terminal where you park for home time I don't see where anything good can come from going in to a terminal voluntarily.
Lightside and scottied67 Thank this. -

I avoid terminals. The guys that work in the shop are the guys who weren't good enogh to get a job at RoadSquad, and i wouldn't let those TA chumps touch a doghouse.
The drivers who stay there are the absolute worst, cheapest, stankiest, most depressing, most backstabbing you will meet. The only thing that will make them worse is if they have their equally ugly and smelly old lady with them.Lightside, A21CAV, scottied67 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I prefer truck stops & especially the ones where there's an Oriental Massage Parlor within walking distance. Some drivers hang around the truck stop tv lounge or game room, but I prefer the oriental massage parlors.

Op you take reset wherever the loads are.for example you unload in Houston that's where you would be taking your reset.believe me you would rather spend time at a truckstop rather then a boring terminal.
Lightside Thanks this. -
What's a company Terminal?
We only have one terminal. The carriers I am leased to has three, and several drop yards, but I just pop in to grab or drop a load and off I go.
One of those three is 30 miles from my house, but they said they don't want my truck parked there anyway, so I drop their trailer, and head home, then I go back and pick one up when home time is over. -
That is a good question Lightside, with some interesting answers. Ask an experienced driver with your company where the good yards are and the not so good.
