The "highest" gear in a 13-speed is 8th but I've never heard of ANYBODY calling a 13-speed an 8-speed.
The transmission that people insist on calling an 8-speed is a 9-speed. Says so right on the information placard and if you can count (low+8=9) IS a 9-speed.
Does Swift use automatics out of the academy?

So let's just count the gear that makes it go backwards and call it a 10 speed so we can be 100% correct.
Oh but wait, if you hit the splitter it can change the speed of your reverse. Should we call it an 11 speed? -

Just FYI, the "automatics" are NOT an automatic transmission, like in your car.
They are AMTs, Automated Manual Transmissions.
My last truck had an Eaton Fuller 10 speed AMT attached to a Cummins ISX15.
My current truck has a "Detroit Advantage" 12 speed on a Detroit DD15. Both are Cascadias.
I drove a manual EF10/ISX15 for two years, just before going to the AMT Cascadia, and I noticed NO performance difference. The computer floats the transmission, and NEVER blows a shift.
Moving to the AMT may have saved me from needing to have surgery on my left knee...Masshole/Noobie, MuscleBro and inkeper Thank this.
