They fired you. File for unemployment. You didn't get the chance to quit. Also file on the money they owe you.
It's state to state.
Don’t give a two week notice to Schneider National or they terminate you that day and take away all,

There are too many variables in trucking to give a notice. IF its your last day and youre in California but you live in Florida they are going to route you to the nearest terminal to get their equipment back and itll be up to you to get home by whatever means possible. The way I always handle it is to schedule home time for the terminal nearest the house and clean out the truck there..

Always take your vacation before quitting
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Whatever nastiness the word of trucking become. To pay or not to pay vacation pay etc. is up to a driver manager. So you can get your vacation pay even if you are fired by one of the worst company in an at will state with barely existing labor protection (happened to me) and the other way around I guess.

They might "fire" you and then report you as having resigned/quit. It makes it easier to get a job, once you FINALLY get someone to talk to you and tell you what they are reporting, since you don't have to explain why you got terminated. On the other hand, it will make life difficult if you apply for unemployment benefits and don't have a recording of the ___hole telling you you are being fired.

The days of 2 weeks notice in this biz pretty much ended 20 years when most of us got " hip" to that whole we are family BS .
Margins are slim in trucking and I'm well aware of the fact the minute I'm deemed no longer profitable I'm gone .
Totally understandable as they are not running a charity....nor am I! And it works both ways .BUMBACLADWAR, Another Canadian driver, metallifreak10 and 3 others Thank this. -

If you give notice, you resigned. You were not terminated. There is no requirement for an employer to allow you to work out a notice. As a manager, I have done this many times, depending upon the employee and what they do.
As for vacation payout, the law of the state matters. If it says “may” then it is the employers option. If it says “shall” then it isn’t optional. Personally, I always payout vacation when notice is given, whether, I allow it to be worked or not.
There are many reasons not to have an employee work out notice. I gave my notice on Friday. I actually hoped they wouldn’t have me work out the notice.LilRedRidingHood, a.paul, BUMBACLADWAR and 4 others Thank this.
