The driver shortage is really just an illusion.

Drivers are the same height they always were; they're just wider than ever before.

That being said, I went to CDL school, paid myself, with a felony record, and had 3 job offers ONCE I STARTED TO APPLY TO OTR COMPANIES, within an hour of each other. Nobody but Swift and CRST cared about my 20+ year old non-violent felony. I even told these companies up front, they ran my background check, said "nothing comes up" and offered me the job.

Ironically enough, today my dispatcher told me "you're one of my good drivers, I don't have to worry about you." She's never told me that before.

When companies are hiring lots of drivers and industry is booming they hire people with black marks. When industry is slow they usually don't hire drivers with black marks in record.

If potential students would locate the job before signing up for CDL school they would never owe money for school & not be employable.

Not my words, but in the same vein.

. There are many people who find it difficult or impossible to get work, because for intellectual or psychological reasons they cannot acquire the level of training necessary to make themselves useful in the present system.) On those who are employed, ever-increasing demands will be placed: They will need more and more training, more and more ability, and will have to be ever more reliable, conforming and docile, because they will be more and more like cells of a giant organism. Their tasks will be increasingly specialized, so that their work will be, in a sense, out of touch with the real world, being concentrated on one tiny slice of reality. The system will have to use any means that it can, whether psychological or biological, to engineer people to be docile, to have the abilities that the system requires and to "sublimate" their drive for power into some specialized task.

No there isnt. New cdl's being printed out everyday. Only shortage is quality drivers. Plenty of seat warmers getting licensed everyday.

Nobody is assigned to be a truck driver at birth. People can choose to become a truck driver and if they choose not to become one they don't cause a shortage. The pay and conditions may not attract enough drivers, but that is not a shortage. That is Law of Supply & Demand and free choice. Pay & conditions attract EXACTLY the correct number of applicants for each job, including truck driver.
