There are different Elogs out there. I have heard of some that as long as there are positive hours on the clock the truck can move even while logged sleeper either for a short distance or a slow speed or full Driving speed for 4 minutes or less. Hit that 5 minute mark and it is game over. So some of these guys pull over right on the live freeway just 4 minutes before the rest area then hit Off Duty then get back up to speed. It automatically switches back to Drive line but once they slow down in the rest area they hit Off Duty again and it shows 4 minutes. Park the truck for 22 minutes and ease back out on the freeway, get back up to speed and pull over again 3 or 4 minutes down the side of the live freeway and confirm 30 minutes qualified break.
Don't let this happen to you...

Why shouldn't a driver be allowed to take a "couple" 15 minute breaks throughout the day? If anything he would be more alert and less stressed out. The FMCSA have not required the systems that "shut" the truck down. This is all up to the indivisual carrier as to what the parameters are set at so YES the carrier should be fined big time.Joetro Thanks this. -
trip planning, is that some sort of mega carrier term?
Joetro and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
you have no idea what's going to happen to mess up your plan. but you KNOW that your plan WILL get messed up somewhere along the line.Lone Ranger 13, moosc and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
There is no reason to hit your 8. Wait until anytime after 6 hrs in to your 14 and shut down for 30. Taking it 7:59 in to your 14 does not change the overall time or distance of your day vs. taking it at 6hrs. Either way you have one break for 30 minutes. (exception for working around rush hour in major cities, of course)
Who here actually has an elog that shuts down the truck? I can run all the violation I want on mine and risk the fines that go with, if I so choose. If such a thing actually exists, rather than these people just not knowing (or dare I say caring) how to park off duty to prevent a violation, it should be outlawed. -

It doesn't hurt to shut down before the 8hour window. Why push it? If u properly trip planned that 30 min was already calculated in. If sitting in a cluster cuckoo and not driving go to off duty.
