I stopped at the TA/Petro at Lake Station, IN.
Their "DEF at the pump" was FROZEN!!!! Hahahahaa. And of course they were sold out of the boxes. So was the Pilot.
Their was a driver standing at the fuel desk asking everyone if they had a box they could sell him. I did not have any but mentioned there was at least ten TSs within 20 miles. He said he was out of E-log hours.
Especially don't push the limits when local temps are in negative numbers!

The Loves and Petro here had the same problem with the DEF at their pumps the past couple of days, the TA & Pilot in Napoleon, OH were having issues yesterday morning too. I don't know if they had the prepackaged stuff available as I drive an older truck that doesn't require DEF. The Loves fuel pumps were "freezing" (slowly pumping @ 20 gallons then stopping) up here a couple of days ago too. Their gas pumps were running wacky as well. I stopped after work to fill my pickup and after the pump hit the automatic shut off the counter kept right on rolling until I replaced the nozzle, it added about $.75 to my total, of course no money back because I couldn't prove how much extra was added to my total. I wonder how much extra money they made that day as they had a couple pumps out of order I'm assuming for that same reason.

Pilot in higginsville MO had DEF out of order signs on most of the pumps. I laugh about this its all I can do. Yea EPA how's that piss water you want on trucks to reduce emissions working out for you now? It was the same way yesterday morning at the pilot at exit 1 of 39 mile south of the miwakee state line. -16 outside temp. Didn't realize how cold it was until I was drinking water and reilzed some of it had froze to my mustache in the 3 minutes it took me to walk from the station to my truck.
Makes me very happy to be on PAPER logs...and not have a truck that requires DEF. Although I HAVE seem a couple places where the number 2 diesel pumps have gelled up. Residual fuel in the line gelled so naturally can't fuel. Had that happen a couple times in SD as well at the mom and pops that don't have a satellite pump just one pump with a long hose. Don't think that doesn't create a cluster ####!!!Pmracing Thanks this. -
I never even let my DEF get to 1/2, little OCD when it comes to that.
I'm on Elogs too..... OMG HOW DO I SURVIVE.
Elogs were invented by the devil himself.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2014
OPUS 7 Thanks this. -
I'm the same, never let it drop below a half tank.
I never know if the next fuel stop will have it in stock, the pump will work, my card will work, the list of possible screw-ups is endless.
Ditto diesel fuel in bad weather - I'll fuel before going home regardless, and usually smile when I get to work and the weather is nastier than when I left. -
ok a stupid question here what is def ?
