Ya people are getting out of hand with it. Even the filthy rich in Hollywood are sending their house keepers down to the gas station for a few hundred worth of tickets, they showed it on the news

Is it like the Super Lotto where if you get 4 or 5 numbers, you can still win? I imagine with such a large jackpot even 4 numbers should pay about $10 million no?

I think that's right. The billion-dollar payout is for a ticket with every number, but less-than-every number wins, too. But I bet at that level, the math used in the algorithm works against winning.

Three split the $1.505B and there are now 81 new millionaires, people who guessed most of the numbers. They each get $1M. And then there are the stores that sold the winning tix.

I'll be spending less time on the forums in 2016 for sure.

Nope, just spent another $11,400 on the truck in fact. Bullgear, crank balancer, crank damper, fan clutch, new water pump, thermostat, overhead, rear main seal, rear detroit seal, clutch, clutch brake, air compressor, governor, oil cooler, coolant reservoir, radiator cap, half dozen various sensors, dash valves, cab bushings, cab shocks, turbo to muffler piping, donaldson muffler, power steering pump, etc.

Engine and suspension are now entirely rebuilt, but I still have a ragged interior, faded roof paint, original transmission, original rear ends, power divider, turbo, etc. So still a ways away from having a 2001 glider...

I was intrigued by the powerball numbers as the jackpot kept growing, but the math was clearly -$EV, even if I bought it in a no-tax state:

    powerball.jpg
A $2 powerball ticket was worth $1.10 in CA and $1.23 in FL -- before including the negative effect of sales tax. I'm not certain whether CA has income tax on powerball -- CA does not tax CA lotto scratchers, but it does tax out of state scratcher winnings. Powerball is multi-state and thus possibly outside the California lottery exemption.

But no one else but the government could get away with advertising a $930,000,000 prize pool as $1.5 billion!
