Had to stop at least 6 times a day, find random strangers, force them to sit in the seat and then jump back, arms wide, exclaiming
" Hey! Right! Mmmmmmmmmm, uh - huh! Right there ! Seeeeeeee! Told you it was comfortable!!!!"whoopNride, RedForeman, tommymonza and 7 others Thank this. -
However you live in a place where it is Relitivly easy for a guy with some drive can make $70k plus easy. However Some of us live in a place where $50k a year is the top of the top for any kind of employee/manager. The town I live in is 3500 people. I moved here from So Cal, got the best job there was in town but I was still unsatisfied. I bought a place here and love where I live so I'm not moving. I'm going to where the coustemers are now and make my own schedule. Sounds like @sawmill is in the same kind of position.
Also my original plan was to have my own numbers like you but the more I do this the better off I think I am staying leasing on to a company. 1 truck is not enough copacity for most direct coustemers. I have brought 3 coustemers to the guy I'm leased too but I never could have gotten them with 1 truck. adding 1 or 2 more trucks to my own numbers doesent seem worth the effort to me. Would have to be at least 5 it looks like the break even for all the extra trouble. Also no dedicated for me! I like to just take time off when I want and one of the other drivers can cover anything I have committed to.(another plus to being part of a team)
Good luck buddie.Rocks, Grijon, tommymonza and 3 others Thank this. -
Thanks for the thread, DY. Very educational, as well as entertaining at times. This is definitely a reality check, but you're a smart feller, and I have no doubt that you'll succeed at whatever you choose to do next.
As for your rig, I'm not in the market for another truck (just bought my first one a few months ago), but, with all the work that you've done to yours recently, somebody that IS in the market needs to jump on it. Deals like that on a well-taken-care-of (with documentation) rig don't come around every day.tommymonza and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I should refi my house and buy either DY. Or Hursts when he is ready to buy something else.
Butt
As much as I know Buy low Sell high, financing my paid for house could lead to disaster.
Currently have no insurance or insurancepayments , property taxes are 350 A year . Costs me a little over 100 bucks a month to live here with utilities and taxes.

DY, you should check out Taleb's book on antifragility. My conclusion is that being an O/O is actually pretty robust if you manage it properly.
I'm loving the current conditions in the industry- weeding out the dilettante hobby truckers is a good thing.ramblingman, Terry270, double yellow and 4 others Thank this. -
I had to look up "dilettante ". Thanks @Boardhauler .

It's called a free market. The low cost producer wins. Even if they go broke doing it
Sometimes I think we could use a little regulation, I just don't trust the government to do provide it.ramblingman, jdrentzjr, Terry270 and 1 other person Thank this.
