Sad really!drvrtech77, RockinChair and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
The ICC bar is supposed to prevent this from happening when axles are slid forward. I suppose at 70 mph, it's a bit much to ask. Just chalk it up to another distracted driving crash, we should be used to this by now. I don't think the truck driver did anything wrong, that is on the shoulder, no? Regardless, it was quick and painless.

I have witnessed emergency responders tell drivers to turn off thier lights to eliminate chance of electrical spark during extraction of othe people/vehicle.
So my question is how do we know for fact he was running with lights out?shroomhauler, Flat Earth Trucker and Numb Thank this. -
Definitely a lot of ### / you / me going on. The commenter made a clear assumption the truck was automatically at fault, I’m sure none of us were there, so who really knows….exhausted379, Flat Earth Trucker and Oxbow Thank this. -
Many years ago when I was with R&L Drilling, the owners son was turning a drill rig around in front of the shop. Rig was a Canterra CT383 mounted on a single axle S series International.
Control panel was on the drivers side and extended just shy of 2’ behind the rear of the drill, with the derrick raised it gave the operator good visibility of the guide plate.
It was early morning around 7:30am on a road that was a dead end, and max 25 mph limit.
There was a light fog along the creek in front of the shop that morning, Keith backed out into the road and pulled forward with the intention of backing up into front of the shop. Before he could get his maneuver completed a car down the holler and hit the rig.
She was a lady of late 80’s or early 90’s in age that lived up the holler. 911 was called immediately, and she was taken to the hospital were she later passed away.
Jump forward a few weeks her children came and talked to the owner of the company, and told him not to feel bad because she was suffering from cataracts and shouldn’t have been driving.
About a month later a letter comes in the mail saying the children are suing the company for $1,000,000, stating that the drill rig had no lights on the rear of it, and no lighting caused the woman to not see the drill and hit it.
The owner was then wondering what to do next, he had no pictures of the rig showing there were clearance lights on the rig. But, he had an ace in the hole that he didn’t know about, but was hoping for.
Those who know me personally know I document a lot of stuff, most with pictures. When I pickup at a shipper I take pictures, when I deliver I take pictures during and after the product is off my trailer.
Back then I had to take the throw away cameras to have the film developed. And amongst my pictures were proof that the drill did indeed have lights on the rear, including the derrick which overhung the rear 6’ as well as the control panel. Saved his bacon…..
