Your very welcome. Sorry about taking so long to comment, been dealing with a broke down truck today.
I totally agree,With your observation and it will probably get worse as these companies beg for drivers with wages that I would have turned down 20 years ago . The bar gets lower as more ##### are needed to be put in seats.
People like to talk crap about UPS,but they have a strict
Dress and appearance code ( unless it pertains to your religion). Company uniforms, hair not to touch your collar ,
No beards ,mustaches must be neat etc. They also pay over $34 hr and have a waiting list a mile long of guys trying to get fulltime trailer driver jobs there. No driver shortage there . Try showing up for work there sloppy in pajama pants with flip flops, they'd send your ### home in a blink of an eye. I worked for UPS in the hub when I was in college (I never finished school ,I went fulltime at UPS). I was a package car driver ,then a personnel supervisor and use to hire for the Edison NJ hub. I left there to go work with my father and then start my own business. They are a tough outfit to work for ,but it's one of the few jobs a man can earn six figures and retire from .

To be honest, on one hand I believe that everyone should be able to wear what they want, look how they want, etc etc. However, on the other hand, there is a degree of self-respect involved for me, and I do see drivers hopping out of the truck looking like they just rolled out of bed, looking sloppy as hell. I compare it to the "people of Wal-Mart" you know those folks that go in wearing their dirty pajama outfits and tattered house shoes looking like an absolute mess. Sure, they can do as they please, but by god have a little dignity. If you don't appear as if you respect yourself, why would anyone else respect you?

I'm not here to offend anyone, (but it's 2018 and that's about the easiest thing you can do) but looking professional should a no brainer, and I tend to do it whether I'm at a customer, or rolling several hundred miles down the road. That's just me. Jeans and work boots is my PREFERRED driving attire and it will remain that way. I'm just not going to hop behind the wheel in shorts and flip flops, just like I'm not going to plop down in front of the tv to relax, or run around in the backyard with my son at home in jeans and boots. I'm going to be in basketball type shorts and a t-shirt that may, or may no have sleeves. It's situation dependent.

Some take pride in the way they look when out in public, some don't, and that's fine too, if that's your thing. Hell, I remember a situation about 3 months ago when my uncle asked me for a ride to the store to help him pick out a new radio for his Harley. I said "sure." I go to pick him up, and he walks out of the house, obviously just rolled out of bed, hair was a mess, wearing a #### NASCAR t-shirt full of holes, pajama pants and house shoes. I promptly told him to go back inside and dress himself like a #### adult, because I wasn't taking him out looking like a #### hobo. He's a grown man, not a lazy 12 year old who can't dress himself. He wasn't too thrilled, but he did. Whether that was right or wrong, I can't say, but no family member of mine will be going with me anywhere looking like a bum. Moral of the story, respect yourself and the image you portray to others. You never know what situation you might find yourself in, or who you might cross paths with. That's just the was I was raised by my folks. By the way, you can in fact wear shorts, tennis shoes or whatever and look 100% professional so don't get my message twisted, I think we all know the type of driver that's being referred to here.

Thanks for making that clear. If they don't understand it, then there's no point trying to explain it.

    Nice post... thanks!
