I am a 20 plus year trash truck veteran and I must say it rocks! I am home daily, weekends/holidays off, paid holidays, full medical dental insurance, company paid cell phone, 401 k, employee stock purchase plan, uniforms and boots provided, free water and coffee, never ever ever work over 14.00 hours in one day or 57.5 hours in 5 days, and I average 60,000 per year. I made 77,000 last year though. Incentive based plan that is .31 cents per mile when just hauling one load but .62 cents per mile with trailer. These figures are based from a 17.28 per hour base rate at sixty min per load. The farther you travel the more time you get per load and when you got two boxes on the truck the rate per mile is unbeatable unless you are o/o.No matter what I haul or where I go I will never make less than 17.28 per hour and typically average around 22 or 23 per hour. So if your looking for an awesome career in an industry that has a lot of negative stigma attached Google the top 3 solid waste companies today and apply! And I am not in a union!

It really isn't that spectacular. I'm glad you're happy though. In the end, if we're happy with the gig we've got, that's really all that matters
