I've always been a entrepreneur. Have a business degree. And have been in business since 16. XX can never be enough.

But have thought about your suggestion. I've been thinking of purchasing a nice RV, working, and enjoying the weekends. lol

Buy a truck and hire a driver! Don’t you want to be the first kid on your block to own a Big Truck?

What could go wrong? Besides, if you get tired of being a shrimp boat captain, you can sell the rig to Mr. Wang. His batting average is .450, not bad for a starting quarterback in NASCAR!

You "think" too much. Take the new job, bank the cash from your lawn equipment, and forget about making any money owning a truck. Take that business degree and use it to your advantage. You have not researched the trucking industry at all. If you had, you wouldn't even be entertaining the thought of buying a truck, hiring a "driver", and making a buttload of cash.

Buy a truck and find a driver IF you ( A ) want to be in the daycare business and
( B ) if your new job will not mind if you are dealing with that hot mess on their dime

Running a truck is possible and profitable but not while you have other obligations
Something will definitely suffer and it will be you in the end doing most of that suffering

The lawn biz will be more forgiving
If it’s a lot to handle I would cut back some and find a person who can run it without a ton of supervision
Maybe a percentage partnership to get someone started and grow the biz while both of you have a vested interest

What I would do now would be to ask the driver why in the hell he stopped in West Memphis in the first place! Lol

If you just sell all your lawn care equipment you’ll give most of it away in taxes. That’s the problem with owning equipment. It’s a great idea to think of selling out and having a chunk in the bank until tax season comes around. Good old capital gain. If you sell out you about have to invest in something. Just not a truck. ;)

Congrats on the new position !

do not, I repeat do NOT buy a truck and hire a driver.
You came here and asked for advice from people with experience in the trucking business , and 99.9% has been the same advice from lots of different people .

if you can’t find anyone you’d trust to run your landscaping biz , withoit a lot of handholding , what makes you think you can find someone who can run your trucking business without a 24/7 babysitter ?

Id talk to a tax accountant and figure out a strategy to sell your lawn biz with the smallest tax hit , no use to give the feds any tax money you don’t have to , since they are going to just give it away to people who are too lazy to work for a living .

if selling your lawn equipment is going to net you some good money,
    I’d look into “ Lifestyles Unlimited “

They are based in Texas and seem to have a good track record of making good profit with syndicated apartment investing. With the investors doubling their money every 2 to 3 years when the apartment complex gets sold.

You should be able to find several LU investors locally in Houston , to sit down and talk with them.
Unlike trucking , where no one, or very few, will share where they find their contracts and loads and how much it pays etc , , the LU apartment investors will open their books and show you what they paid for the apartment complex , how many different investors bought a share of the ownership, how much was spent on renovations, how much the rent got raised, how much profit it’s now generating , and what the complex sold for two years after they purchased it .

It may be a good time for selling the lawn equipment .
Covid has made everything else very hard to find new.
The price of everything from chicken to lumber to used cars has gone up alot
I’d assume used well maintained diesel
Zero turns has gone up in value as well to reflect the drop in value of the dollar .
