My wife and i went to wolf. Great school. Great people. And they are so close to you . I think if you tell them we sent you, you might get $ off. They got long hrs and really will work with you. Its not the most tech kinda place but all the instructors have been driving a very long time. The owners also do the training as well. If you want more info please let me know.

Do they have a sleeper truck or are they still using only day cabs?
I think it's important to learn in a rig that is as close to what you'd be driving in the real world.

For example, my crappy school had a day cab with a 7speed. That certainly isnt an OTR rig by todays standards
and I was in for a surprise later on....

yea in the 10-20 schools i called before deciding on one i went with they all told me the same thing "we care" or "we are interested in seeing you succeed" so after there sales pitch and yes they all have a sales pitch i asked one simple question i was told (instert worst company here) was a great company to start with is it ? that knocked it down to 5 or so then i went to there orientation\interview and asked as a student if i went with company X will they get me home every weekend? that weeded it down to 3 from there i went with the best fit for me
imo......... they'll all the same they want your money and you want a cdl so there pretty much all the same and Hanadarko i mean no disrespect when i ask how can you say one is better then another without actually attending both ?

I only made a comment on Spirit.

Knowing the industry and the type of driver certain schools churn out does give one some perspective on the type of schools out there. I have not heard anything really robust about Wolf but if Killer went there and was satisfied with the training he received for the tuition he paid - then thats all that matters really.

Remember, trucking school and company recruiters are for the most part great liars....all they really are, are salespeople.
They tell the customer (you) what YOU want to hear.

No matter which school there is or product or trucking company, there will always be people that say great things and people that say bad things....

I'm still trying to figure out who is passing all of these Volvo driving Russians that speak virtually NO english and are utterly rude. Understanding English is SUPPOSED to be a requirement of your CDL.

:biggrin_25521:.....oops got off on a tangent there for a moment...

If i see a volvo coming i get out of the way. Just in case. And yes they do use daycabs . No 7 speeds thought. All where 10 . Not to say anyones wrong. I think that we should learn to drive with the worst trucks possible. So that when you get a nice truck you take care of it. Just me though. Hanadarko are you from the area?

I hadn't even considered the trucks themselves, not just the condition. As obvious as it is, I suppose since my first CDL was trained and had in the exact truck I drove I didn't think about sleeper vs day-cab and transmissions. Good point! I am checking out all the places over the next couple of days as, in another posting put, surprise visits to see how they treat folks when they don't know they're coming. Wendell, I will keep you in the loop, we just might be! I remember when I first got my license in NM I had two others with me, and the three of us fed off of each others mistakes and study tricks. Good stuff!

I'm in the midwest. I run all 48 and working on my Canadian permits and authority.

It's probably not a big deal if a school doesn't have similar equipment to what you will be driving,
but I would keep in in the consideration of a decision...

    I haven't touched a 7speed day cab since 1990.

First day at Spirit today. I think it is going to go very well. They seem more than determined to make sure you are successful.

If I'm not mistaken South Suburban Community College had a truck driving program (I know they used to).
