I've been lurking around for a little bit, reading a lot of what you guys have to say. I am very interested in a career change and becoming a professional truck driver seems like it would be a good fit for me.

I have ADHD, and I have read through many of the threads on the subject, but I still have some questions:

First, and correct me if I'm wrong, according to the DOT, if you have a letter from your doctor (primary or psychologist?), you can be permitted to take ADHD medications on the road. With that said, will companies, particularly starter mega-companies, still steer clear of you? Or would there be some way to figure out beforehand? Could and should I try to get a DOT physical done before even looking at going to work for a company? I would likely get company-sponsored CDL training.

    Thanks!

part of it probably depends on the medication. another part will depend on company policies , so ask the companies themselves call them

I did do a search, and came across this thread, but it hadn't answered my questions and I didn't realize how recent the thread was until after I posted this one. I do apologize, though.

    There's nothing to apologize for.

Don't know why that post is in bold letters; couldn't get it to go away.

ADHD is a make believe disease, a compound fracture, a football size goiter, a grapefruit size brain tumor is real.
So Doc Tuck prescribes you quit all your meds and get a job and complain about it.

Bakerman and Yves kanevil Thank this.

I won't argue about whether it is or is not legit (I think it is, but not worth arguing). I certainly could function and be safe without meds (done it for years). And I already have a job a complain about it, just thinking about getting another job and complaining about it. Haha

Did you have trouble in school concentrating on what the teacher was droning on about?
Did you doodle and daydream about being off on an adventure, and just pay enough attention to get the grade you wanted.
If so, you probably really have adhd.

I disagree, it is real, but very overly medicated. I have add and have always refused medication. It can be dealt with without meds
