A spring ride truck is a different animal obviously, but on an air ride truck you should always dump the suspension before you pull out from under a load. Springs will just go limp, but air bags under that extra pressure from the load will overextend. Do that repeatedly and you may have one blow.

When an loaded air ride trailer is dropped with trailer bags inflated, some trailers will lose air and the bags will deflate. When this happens the trailer tends to shift forward pitting a real strain on the landing gear legs. Sometime to the point of making them hard if not impossible to raise and lower. For that reason, I started to prefer spring ride tankers over air ride.
