There's a lot of info on pneumatic tankers. Some of the posts are old but the basic information on how the tankers work and things you'll need to know is still there. I've driven quite a bit of pneumatics hauling cement, fly-ash, and sand. If you follow a few rules, remember your basics and safety rules and keep your eyes open it's easy work.Bud A., Albertaflatbed, lual and 1 other person Thank this. -
It opens doors for you long term, and the money is definitely there.
I pull chemical, gas, and dry bulk, and given a choice, I’ll pull dry bulk over everything else, mostly for the money, but also it’s cleaner and less dumb crap to deal with.
I’ve never had to wait to load or unload, and my pay for dry bulk is always better than anything else.
If you pass on it, know that as soon as the boss floats it to someone else, your opportunity will be gone for God knows how long, if it ever comes back along for you.
Seize the day, take the gig, and go get some!Bud A., Albertaflatbed, lual and 1 other person Thank this. -
Pneumatic tankers is pretty easy.
I run pvc powder and plastic pellets.
The powder i can usually blow as hard and fast as i want, but the pellets i gotta be mindful of the line pressure so it don’t angel hair the pellets in the line.
I can vacuum load from a silo or rail car, or top load from overhead hoppers.
I can offload into rail car or silo, blowing it out the bottom pipe .
It’s easy money in my opinion.
It’s loud, so ensure you have ear plugs on hand.
If you want to know more, or have specific questions, I’ll do my best to answer.Bud A., Albertaflatbed, lual and 1 other person Thank this. -
I’ve done liquid bulk, fuel, general chemical, milk, acid, ISO containers, acid and always enjoyed it. I just recently started hauling flour in a pneumatic and love it. We tip load but it’s all in a rack so pretty safe and never get on top of the trailer if not in a rack. I’d say to do it. Like others have said food grade is cleaner but all in all it’s pretty easy. I like the fact too that our tanks are dedicated to one mill so wherever we’re at, once we’re empty we just put it in the wind back to the mill

I've did some dry bulk and enjoyed doing it. I don't get very dirty doing chemicals but I didn't get dirty at all on dry bulk.
@easternguy101 if you don't jump on this, you'll regret it. You can always ask the boss to put you back on the port work if it doesn't suit you.Bud A., Albertaflatbed, lual and 3 others Thank this. -
Once you learn, it can't be erased; you keep that skill forever.
You are being given an opportunity, take it if you like the place and your boss 'cause they already like you.....Bud A., Albertaflatbed, lual and 1 other person Thank this. -
I pull a pneumatic bulk tanker. Fire away with your questions.
Albertaflatbed Thanks this. -
Just to repeat, most of you folks that do that kind of work, make it seem like a piece of cake, and compared to a box, it's a lot of extra work. Extra work you may or may not get paid for, not unlike flatbed. Every place I went and loaded silica sand in a dump trailer, the dust was unmeasurable. I was even told to shut the motor off. Back then we never had respirators, and a host of diseases can result. Outside in all weather, schlepping hoses, climbing ladders( in all weather), sorry, it was a lot easier going to the breakroom getting a cup while they ran( or took off) 22 pallets, all in my Sunday best,,,just saying, for a newbie that's used to something else, it may not be the best choice.
Numb Thanks this. -
Bud A., okiedokie, Long FLD and 1 other person Thank this.
