I was just thinking that I’m sure someone from California will come along and tell us how THEIR way is the only right way. :biggrin_25520:

    Outside to outside...

Or if there is a dotted guideline, follow that.

Not sure if it would be applicable elsewhere, but here (BC) we're expected to stay in the far right lane until just about ready to turn, then come over to the edge of the median and block 4 wheelers with the trailer. After that point it's straight and wait till turn, and turn into the far right lane (as long as it's not HOV) of the 3 lane.

All this assumes you're at a stop sign or un-signalled intersection and can't make an outside to outside turn safely. If at a stop light that may or may not change then we're expected to be in the left lane well before the intersection, and proceed to the middle lane of the 3 way, eventually getting back into the far right lane when safe if it's not HOV.

A lot of the civic planning here is starting to look like Europe. Tight lanes, even tighter corners in some places. Most cops are pretty forgiving (they have the same power as DOT here) but if they see you taking someone's right of way you're screwed.

Big wide intersections are great but they're not everywhere, right ? So, us drivers need to do what is necessary to complete a turn (safely and legally) The law says turn lane-lane then when your turn is complete you may change lanes if safe to do so. However, we must also allow for ignorant 4 wheelers and since we are professionals, we need to make quick adjustments etc on the fly. No cop will cite you for avoiding an accident.

On multiple turn lanes I generally stick to the outside of the rainbow. Easier to see a car creeping up on your inside than on the outside.
