That's unfair. I'm not sure why you're bringing his mother up. I'm willing to bet she did the best she could with him. He was 25 years old. He is well past the age where his mama could do something with him. His upbringing at this juncture has nothing to do with this is my view. We all try to teach our kids the best we can, and we can only hope that they heed our teachings and warnings. Sometimes it goes awry. Like you said, he paid the ultimate price and won't even get a chance to learn this hard lesson. It's unfortunate.

It was originally brought up by Tatum in his break down of what happened. In the you tube video. He pointed out a common theme is no strong male figure. In the kids life.drvrtech77 Thanks this.

Sorry man....being in a fatherless home is not an excuse. I won't allow any of you to pull that card and I'm so sick of people trying to use that as an excuse. There have been people raised with both parents who still turned out ####ed up. Just about all of us have been surrounded by enough good people and influences growing up. I stated why I believe he ran, and for the record I don't agree with him running. I guarantee you if he grew up in a fatherless home that wasn't on his mind. Many folks always talk about the media pushing narratives and of all the ones they push, this one grinds my gears the most. I didn't grow up with a father either...poor me. To me, that's just a cop out. Fatherless homes ain't nothing new nor is it stopping.jethro712, mjd4277 and gentleroger Thank this.

That's what they always go to when young men, particularly ones of color, foul up. That particular propaganda drives me up a wall. I won't discount the importance of having a father or father figure, but we can't use that particular media driven excuse.

This might be an interesting read for you. I know it challenged a lot of ideas I had.

I don't believe he was making it an excuse. Because he point blank said. This wouldn't have happened. If the kid had just taken the ticket.
The previous night. He ran from another traffic stop. He probably would have gotten away the second time. If he had not discharged his gun. As soon as he did. They couldn't break pursuit.bryan21384 and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
These times remind me of Isaiah chapter 1.

I see where you’re coming from, but if you think it’s that easy, go apply at your local police department. Instead of all of the liberals and cop
haters running their suck about police brutality, how about you step up and put on the uniform. You seem to have all the answers. Truth be told, you’d quit within a week.
I have never been a police officer, but I have been on the front lines in Iraq. You have to make split second decisions that can either save your life and the lives of others, or if you don’t act, can get you and others killed.jethro712, drvrtech77, xlsdraw and 1 other person Thank this. -
won’t have to worry about getting shot by police if people do this ^^nredfor88, jethro712, Big Road Skateboard and 4 others Thank this. -
Really not a narrative. It’s typical. I like when people get mad at stereotypes. Why would you? Stereotypes exist because the situation happened so much it became common.
I don’t have sympathy or empathy or even a little bit of give a darn about situations like this. The pattern is there. Always is. Parents have to start early in raising a decent kid. No excuse’s. I’m not giving his mother a pass. I’m tired of excuses. Not one instance of this type of shooting has ever happened and a mother or father come out and say “I effed Up” Not one instance of some idiots kid doing anything dumb has the parents stepped up, squashed all the questions/therioes/rumors and said “My kid effed up, we effed up. Its always the blame game.Northern Nomad Thanks this.
