When i quit my elog company to go to work for another company which used paper, I used the fax feature on the elog to fax myself my previous 7 days. this would have been around 2200 that night. Then I filled out a paper log from 2200 forward and of course paper going forward.

What was funny is the new company did get my permits and paperwork in order however they didn't get me a license plate for about a month. I still had the previous company's prepass though and would roll right on through. Even had to stop at the little check in Arizona I-40 eastbound I think, even though company X was on my doors, she still asked if I drove for company Y lol. I just pointed to the doors and she kept looking back at her computer totally confused like 'how could my computer be wrong?'

This is why I'm thankful we have tablets connected by bluetooth to our trucks instead of hardwired units. The tablet stays with the driver, so if we have to drive a rental, we run a paper log for that day only, because we can immediately produce our previous 7 days on the tablet for anyone to inspect if needed. The tablet is the best option for elogs, in my view.

Yeah I see that, we've done that when we had no way to cover a load the next day but I've found that some actually do this every time they needed an oil change or an annual.

I love the responses. Did anyone actually digest what the OP posted before replying?

No experience with e-logs but with printed and signed copies I can't see why there would be a problem.

Rules require last 7 plus current.

You have the electronic device showing the prior 7 days and you run a paper log that day.

Why cannot you plug your ELD if it just plugs into the port into the Rental and update the needed information such as truck number and miles, etc?

If cannot, then can you take your Electronic device with you with the logs that are from the ELD? If cannot, then you have to print the prior 7 days to show if asked. If can, then run a paper log that day along with keeping your electronic device on hand and able to show if needed.

You can't remove ours from the truck. Rentals don't have the system installed.

Yes, I know. However, when you print them out there is place to sign and date.

Thank you for understanding the question. That's what I'm thinking but wanted to know if anyone had prior experiences with a state DOT not taking them or something. Ohio does a lot of road side inspections and I don't go thru any weight stations. Rather not be held up trying to get them faxed over somewhere. Plus Michigan has several locals police departments that are DOT certified. Yeah, rather not trust what they think they know about the rules of service. LOL
