From what I can understand Maverick prefers you to have your CDL already even though they have a program in place which helps you - and they are picky on there new drivers who are new to driving world and do not have a cdl currently.....does that sound about right

This is correct, but they have parterned with a school. This is one reason why I suggest getting your cdl on your own. Theres a very good school in pittsburgh just east of Dravosburgh called PIA.

Any training company that requires you to lease should immediately be taken off your prospect list.
Very few people have new driver experience at two different companies. I trained at Stevens Transport. I made about 40k in a year with them, starting in mid january, with two months of trainee pay. 18k or so of that was untaxed Per diem pay, so my reportable pay was about 22k. That screwed up my mortgage deduction too, taking Per diem option was a mistake for me.
Stevens has a very good training program. Most companies that do training are shipping companies first, training companies second. Stevens is the opposite.
If you get your training at Stevens, and stick with them for a year and keep your nose clean, just about any standard freight company will hire you.
But the pay is not great. They also push hard to get you to lease, which is the one thing about their program that I hate. As an inexperienced driver you have absolutely zero sense taking on the responsibility of a truck until you have spent a year making mistakes that other people have to pay for.
Almost every trainer at Stevens is a contractor. They get nice bonuses if they can convince you to also be a contractor when you finish training.
However, I will tell you that I worked 14 months for Stevens and never once met a non-trainer contractor who had been a contractor for more than two months who was happy.
Stevens is a good place to learn, as long as you stay a company driver. Its a poor place to earn a living after you have a year of experience under your belt. -
What about Riverside Transport, Inc. I keep seeing more new Youtube ads which look great - yet I have no idea about what they have to offer or have heard from any of there lease drivers.

Look up Neil Shane Otts on Youtube. He went through the school Maverick is partnered with and now drives for Maverick. He chronicled it all on Youtube and is still actively Vlogging. He speaks highly of the program. I used to work for them but already have my CDL. I do highly recommend them. Best wishes!Gunner75 Thanks this.

His video looked very convincing, and I wish he would talk more on the lease program and maybe more on the pay structure.

You could call a recruiter to get this information. They have increased their pay since I was there so I don't really know what it is now. They call their lease program "Mav IC". IC stands for Independent contractor. If I remember correctly you have to work for Maverick for one year before you can get into it and last I heard they have a waiting list for it. It is actually one of the only companies that I would actually trust them not to screw you over on their lease purchase program. Maverick is picky but they offer excellent top notch training in all they do. They will be honest with you (even the recruiters) and if you work hard they will reward you for it. I would be there now but I am not in their hiring area any more. I now work for Britton Transport out of Grand Forks,ND in their flatbed division (which is based in Sioux Falls,SD). It is much smaller than Maverick but I recommend them as well. Unfortunately for you, Britton does require you to first have your CDL as they don't have a program to train you for it. Maverick, however, is very excellent and you could go there to start and easily make a lasting career there. And to your other posting they do have all automatics, although the school they use does train with a 10 speed. That is a good skill to have however in my opinion. Best wishes in whatever you choose to do!
