Don't they just plug into the data port in the cab?

That would cause an odometer discrepancy on each device as you swapped them out. Since carriers are required to maintain documentation of engine changes as per 49 CFR Part 379 Appendix A it wouldn't jive if you were to try and come up with an excuse for this.

You and I both know that. The point I'm trying to make is that those truckers gave the people with power something to justify making these rulesand regulations. Majority will always get punished for what the minority does. We may say it's the megas, or government overreach, or whatever. They have an out, and a believable out to the ignorant, to do this. People don't pay attention to the same truckers, only the few that caused problems.in the industry. I'm on even saying I support the mandate. I don't care one way or the other. I'm just saying don't point your anger to the people who don't know. Point your anger to the ones that know better. They're the one that gave the government the out.

When you plug in the second one, it will prompt you to account for the mileage accrued since the last update to the device, and when a DOT Officer inspects the logs will see it was disconnected in Fernley, Nevada, and reconnected in El Paso, Texas.

Brother, you're right. I've never ran a business. Not interested in having the stress expressed in your post. You couId educate me since you "know so much." I mean, everyone is so angry about the mandate. So many of you griped about the industry before it came, now it's here and there's still gripes.

Bryan.......... Elogs were not the brainchild of the FMCSA. They were not a response to dead children strewn all over the highway at the hands of outlaw truckers. The ATA voluntarily started using Elogs to save money but then the ATA didn't think it was fair that they had Elogs and the small guy didn't so the ATA idea lobbied for the law.

Now they are saving money on compliance for their 1,000's of drivers and I have to waste money and time complying with this law for two drivers with no history of HOS violations or crashes. Corruption, bribery and anti-competition right out of the 3rd world

Again, brother, you and I both know that. We have been in the industry for a while. To the masses, politicians, and everyone else that don't know anything about trucking, they are selling "saving lives" to them.

I have no problem with elogs. I run them and saves me time on paperwork. Couple of clicks in the morning and off I go. When I am done for the day I certify my logs and log off. It’s simple to use and eliminates any chance of screwing up on HOS. 14 hr clock is the problem , we need more flexibility on how and when we operate. You can’t be a dinosaur in the age of advancing technology. Everything is done online and on the computer. I ran legal while I was on paper and I had no problem switching to elogs.

I dont believe anyone has given them a legitimate excuse to implement this policy. Sure there were and always will be a few outlaws. Politicians are pretty good at manufacturing a crisis for the general public so they can win over the weak minded and make them feel safe while gaining popularity, often with a little persuasion from a few big corporations who stand to benefit of course. Usually the end result is the complete opposite. Forgive some of us who still think for ourselves and dont accept everything that comes down the pike with open arms
