Engineer derails train over suspicion about hospital ship U.S.N.S. Mercy

At least the various barricades protecting the piers did their job. Its not easy to stop a full bore engine.

If he did manage to punch that ship with it we would not hear the end of that.

 

This guy's an idiot. The tracks ended over 1000' before the pier!

Even going full steam with a few cars for added momentum (and how straight is the track leading up to the dead end?) there's still the matter of *the tracks don't point to the ship!* what was he gonna do? Swerve?!?

 

His traction would have gone away once he left those rails assuming notch 8 on that old SD40 or so model engine maybe 2400 horses. Roughly maybe 340,000 pound engine with a 70 ton wellcar on him. Call it 240 tons mass.

It will need some of that 1000 feet to get it stopped.

 

Somebody was watching either “Silver Streak”,”Runaway Train” or “Unstoppable”!!LOL

 

Of course that makes sense to someone from California.

 

That engineer must've got a double dose of Alex Jones.
