Applied to ODFL couple weeks ago and went to the job fair at the office today. Interviewer said the dept head interviews are next week, so hopefully they pass me on to that level and I can maybe get hired. Sounds like they need people. Wish me luck!

Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds
Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.

Best of luck! Did they give you any indication WHY they need people? That's a 180-degree turn around from what I experienced when I applied there. I'm wondering what changed. I'll never apply there again, but if a driver I know asks I'd like current info.

I haven't heard back, so I'm guessing the gap in my work history [took some time to use up GI bill and spend time with kids] is killing me. Time to apply to ABF and Estes -
At YRC in Portland I was told the recent hiring surge is due to the economic surge after Covid lockdowns were removed. Our terminal is way short of dock workers and drivers versus the flood of goods arriving. I imagine it is the same for all companies. Huge change with the 2007-2008 economic crash and another huge change after the Covid disruptions.

All of the carriers have been hiring like crazy most of the last year. Funny how all those "two years experience" requirements go away when they get desperate.

FXF is hiring at $32+/hr in Portland. Amazing.

Currently have an application with ABF, that got at least to background check [which is clean], and shows up on their site as under review. Not sure if I should call them up to ask if there's anything I need to do, or just wait, so if any of you who have been through that process can advise, I'd be much obliged.
ODFL never got back to me so I assume they had enough drivers show up for the job fair that there were several that were more qualified than me. Ah well!mmk trucking and HiramKingWilliams Thank this. -
Driver #2 was, "under review" for about a week. Then he got the call. The day he was called Driver #1 got a, "thanks for applying but" email. Driver #2 has about 20 years more years of experience driving than Driver #1.Last edited: Oct 9, 2021

Well, hell, I'm not waiting 3 months. I'll give it another week or two, I need a paycheck.
