I don't see why you would necessarily be held responsible as long as you didn't pull out right in front of someone. If they have a long line of sight, anyone should be able to stop in time if they're paying attention and if the people following them aren't following too closely.
Ever deliberately stopped in the middle of the street to make a turn?

I dunno, 300 feet at 55 mph is less than four seconds, and he said that's what he would allow before pulling into the road and stopping to block their lanes with cars approaching at that rate and distance.JC1971, Kyle G., gentleroger and 1 other person Thank this.

It becomes a question of who has "duty of care" and "last clear chance ". Even if a vehicle has the legal right of way, if they don't excerise "duty of care", they can be ruled at fault. Similarly if they have a clear chance to act to avoid the incident and don't, they can be held at least partially at fault.
It's one thing if the truck begins moving into a gap but just takes too long navigating the turn and impede traffic. If the truck intentionally blocks cross traffic and an incident occurs the truck automatically becomes at fault, and the actions of others become "contributing factors ".
I may not like it, and don't fully agree with it, but that's the way the law plays out. -

BALONEY! I SAID 300 YARDS! You owe me an apology for saying that I said 300 feet when I actually said 300 yards. This is libel. You're defaming my character by making a false accusation that I said 300 feet when I actually said 300 yards.Last edited: May 22, 2024

Calm down. I’ll handle it.
He really did say 300 yards, and the post hasn’t been edited since Monday.

Thank you. That was honorable of you to say the truth and back me up that I said 300 yards.
