I started my day out yesterday like any other day, up at 5 to go get an excavator.
I called the owner who was also my pilot car driver at a community 2 hours out of home base to check in and turns out he is still at home and never got my messages from the night before. He said he would be on his way soon so I had to go to the pick up point and wait.
While there another low bed was trying to get his jeep underneath his neck and couldn't. A couple guys came up to me and asked what I would do and I told them but the driver didi not want to listen to anyone so he kept trying his own way. Long story short they wanted me to take his load and I said no because they hadn't tried this last way.
The guy finally did and got underneath.
The owner of the hoe then showed up and said he still had 5 hours of work to do and asked if I could wait. He is a good customer so I happily obliged.
We loaded up fine and were on our way 6 hours later. 20min out of town his truck quit. We had to call another pilot truck out. At that time got the call to haul a load of fuel out to another community.
Once we got the hoe off I hooked up to the load of fuel and left town. On the climb out of town which is a 9% grade almost spun out because it was blowing winds and snow. Got up fine and started down the highway.
For a while I was being jerked around quite a bit and thought it was the combination of a partly loaded pup and
the wind.
Then I felt a bank and knew something was wrong so quickly came to a stop. Jumped out to find both wheels and brake drum gone from the drivers side rear drivers. So I was 3 miles from a pullout so I limped it there unhooked from the trailer and called the dispatcher to send another truck put and then proceeded to limp home at 40mph. I found where the tires had come off and wasn't about to let $800 worth of tires stay in the ditch. I was fortunate to have another trucker show up and offer a hand.
Got the tires strapped down and went home.
That was my day.
Ever just have one of those days......

At least you made it home in one piece, and with your attitude intact.
-
What happened? You break the axleshaft?
-
No the nuts came loose. Found out today from our most experienced trucker that running tire chains alot causes nuts to come loose.
Something I didn't know and never happened last year but must have got lucky.
I run tire chains about 60% of my trips. -
Wow, lucky you didn't damage anything!! What a day, eh? Glad it worked out all right with no one hurt!
-
Update on damage:
2 New steel wheels.
2 New Aluminum wheels.
2 New Hubs.
It sucks but I have learned for next time. -
Oh, man, that does suck!!! Wow!

Ever have one of those days?
Yes...yesterday I did...
And when the momentum of such a day begins...seems there's nothing you can do to stop it...

>>>>Ever have one of those days?
Had 2 of those in the last 3 days...2 days ago coming off of 15 onto 40E my serpentine belt breaks in the 109f heat with no wind...Waited 3hrs for road service to show up...Yesterday I pull into a rest area in Winslow, AZ to, well, you know, got back in truck and it wouldn't start...Road service shows up and discovers a decent sized fuel leak along with a shot solenoid...He put a screw with a rubber gasket in hole in tank, which must have just happened as I just filled up and it was coming out like it was peeing and I would have noticed it, and showed me how to start truck without solenoid until I can get to a shop that could replace it...$420 in repairs...

When I was in Arizona last week...the truck I was in also broke down, right in a T/A fuel Iland...
It was the starter...
Luckely the T/A shop was less than 40 feet away...
I saw the same thing happen to a driver who's truck broke down right on the D.O.T. scale...
