Did it all the time everywhere.
In Alberta we have a lot of unmanned provincial weigh stations that are used occasionally by enforcement officers, so they are fully available the rest of the time. They even have the button to zero the scale before you use it handy (very useful in winter when there is snow on the ground).speedyk, D.Tibbitt, Scottyotty1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
There's one in Wyoming off 80. Big lot for plenty of trucks. I don't think there's a restroom there though but I could be wrong. Maybe on the other side of freeway.
I'd be worried about Lamar but if you know it well. By all means. Sometimes Idaho and Utah also leave there's on. But not usually. -
Mooseontheloose, 201 and LoSt_AgAiN Thank this.

Valdosta going northbound in Georgia those coops installed a camera just for me.
I used to come through there back in the early 90s at night when they were closed and lock my tandems up on the scale doing about 55mph, knock the calibration out of whack and then take off. I guess eventually they got tired of resetting the scales.
Sometimes I would throw my piss Jug right next to the officers door.
Then one night I noticed they put a camera up on the front guess he wanted to see who was coming in never had a problem with the southbound side just the Northbound knuckleheads. I noticed that the camera was a big CCTV I was going to actually drive by the coop wait a half-hour and go in there on foot rope it and tear It Off the Wall.
Just seemed like it would be too much work and more than likely some trucker would see it and call in on me wanting their certificate as an honorary Valdosta piece of crap Deputy dog weighmaster.
Even to this day that Coop is nothing but a bunch of crap all about making the money stopping you on the scale so they can look at your comic book looking for Easy Money hits and they used to single out independent's on that scale on a regular basis.
Then in the late 90s they had a little donut Chugger in there named Russell that showed extreme glee in his eyes when he asked for your comic book.Last edited: May 1, 2019
Mooseontheloose and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
Some states will remember you, it seems. It might be because some other driver did something there or in a neighboring state that got noticed, not necessarily because of using their scale after hours, but I no longer weigh for free in Indiana. Sitting there for a few minutes before they decided to let me go with 1 pallet in the trailer cured me.

My luck be billy with a shotgun itchy shoot for trying to sneak a fast one, Will have that Cat scale ready and only enter those scales when that scale open and told enter. otherwise, its peddle to the floor and the place in my side mirrors.
Mooseontheloose Thanks this. -
I have even been known to drive out there empty and turn around to go through the scales to recalibrate mine. He does not care and will tell me my weights and wait till I program them before moving.
I try to be right there maxed out, so he routinely tells me that I am 3 or 4 hundred over on one end or the other. -
Mooseontheloose Thanks this.
