    • If you want exercise do flatbed where you load and unload/ tarp daily. If you want more, do some foodservice or beverage distribution.
If it was so good why would they fly you out on their expense? Wouldn't there be a waiting list of seasoned drivers?

I had a buddy that tried DG, LOL! Pat about lost his MIND! The freight was jammed in there, falling all over the place, and then he thought he would get some exercise unloading! Oh my GOD! It was a mess, and even worse when he got to the stores...

I don't know where you are at, but I used to bag some Walgreen's loads, it was driver unload, and it was very organized. BUT, I was under my own authority, pulled their 48' trailers and would hit say 4 or 5 stores in a tiny area. The pay to me was around $2000 for the load and my labor. This is when it was ugly out here in 2008, 9... But, it was easy money, and very organized, not like what I have heard regarding DG. Just my .02. ;-)

Oh, I believe Walgreen's, at least in the Toledo OH area, start their drivers at $25 an hour plus benefits.

Yes, back when I worked a convenience store at night. The delivery guys. I told them I thought they had the best driving job there is. Because of the exercise. At that point I was in good shape too.
Unfortunately back then. I had no money. Barely scraped up enough to get a Class B. Did that with no experience whatsoever. Just took the test. Passed.
To be honest. I would have been better off, if I had gone even to Swift. Put up with their problems. Just to get an A. Work a decent job sooner.
I just need to see how my rehabilitation goes the next two months. Only figured out what it was, a few months ago. Had it for 2.5 years.

EDIT: I don't rule out anything. Keeping an open mind going forward. Start school on the 6th.

Laziness may be part of it, but the bigger issue for me is the tiny parking lots you expected to fit a sleeper and a 53ft trailer into. Every time I drive by one of those dollar stores all I can think of is "Oh hell no!"

I admit a couple problems with Schneider.
No pet policy. I don't think so. Need at least one intelligent life form in the truck.
They're micromanaging. No good. Straining at gnats while swallowing camels is no good.
I've seen they give you boots you have to wear. They won't like me going straight to the shop. Grinding those heels down. Don't think they'll like it at all.

I used to empty the dumpsters at a couple DG's. One, I used to leave it in a different position each time. Couldn't get to it the same way, twice in a row. Doh!

FWIW, I work 5 days / week, 6 if I want. Home every night but one (my choice). $90K per year, W2 with full benefits including vacation. Class A.

    You can do better.

To be honest.... Even with all the possibilities I have. I'll probably end up driving a Tanker. $70K a year to start.
Then rethink things after the first year.
    Still...keeping my mind open.

That mail run is probably trailer swapping at the midpoint with another driver.

9 hours one way is 4.5 hours to midpoint, drop your trailer, pick up new trailer, then drive 4.5 hours back home.

That sounds like a sweet run. Minimal human contact .
