These warranties are pricey, but so are parts and labor no doubt.

The base truck is the most bang for the buck based on your intended usage.

There’s a lot of factors that go into this purchase tho…..

If you like wrenching and maintaining your own stuff. Hate waiting in line at dealers or can’t afford the down time. Don’t buy anything.

If you can make the time to take it in and use the warranty and or don’t want to mess with it when it’s broken. I bet you could easily spend the 6k on warranty repairs in 5 years.

The Powertrain will very likely make it to your 8 year-300k mark with just regular preventative maintenance. Maybe an occasional Nox sensor or 2 as it gets older.

I have an OCD customer with a 18’ 389. Never idles and is on top of his stuff. Closing in on 500k hasn’t even cleaned or replaced DPF yet.

I know but its still a data point to consider with paccars. If their own engine is so....problematic shall we say. You gotta wonder about cummins motors in a paccar frame.

You are aware that both the x15 and the MX13 use the same Holset after-treatment system?

The biggest weakness in the Paccar’s I’ve run into (sample of 2) is the wiring. Several cases of corroded wires, a broken wire, a corroded module. The motors (other than the injectors, which have an extended factory warranty) have been solid. I’m fortunate to have a responsive dealer, and downtime has been minimal. I hear tell not all dealers are.

I had the three-year warranty. I wrote a letter to Paccar Explaining what I wanted to do in my background in trucking. I was offered the warranty for $500. I had zero emissions issues whatsoever during the warranty period. I think they got most of the emissions issues sorted so it will last at least 300,000 miles. 2022 Pete. Under warranty, we replaced two leveling valves, seat control panel, two ps reservoir, one AC compressor, foot pedal roller throttle module, drive axel wheel seals, and I am on my third ABS Bendix module. Nothing about emissions in first 300 k. I do not use a apu/epu. If it was cold, I used my bunk heater, If hot, I’d idle and pump up the idle. Getting the dealer to cover summer and warranty was a pain in the butt sometimes. A few times I paid for things that I shouldn’t have had to. I will never buy an extended warranty unless I could get one for 500 again. I spent thousands of dollars chasing vibrations and other issues that were not covered or warranty at a dealers labor cost. It would’ve been cheaper to just go to a shop at half the labor rate and not worry about the warranty.- The Extended warranty did not cover the engine. It expired at 250 K and at 300 K. Still no issues with the emissions.

5 years is gonna cost $12K.

id be tempted to chance it without the extended crap

40K miles a year times 5 years is 200K miles. Your hours will be a little elevated because of where you operate . That doesn’t seem like a gamble to not get it.

By the numbers - stock price estimate $250k

    Full warranty - FACTORY - not 3rd party - $12,500

    5% of purchase price,

I’m pretty conservative, and hate insurance, but I’d rather purchase it for catastrophic purposes beyond the 1 year warranty.

But I’m not the one writing the check.

@Goodysnap is in this every day. @Ruthless is the OCD owner that makes ‘stuff’ happen daily.

You'd be amazed at what modern parts cost. DD15 fuel pump was a $4k warranty job as well as a couple $1k NOX sensors. Warranty downside it took 2 1/2 weeks to get that fuel pump done.
My neighbor gambled and didn't get it on his 2023 w9. It'll be interesting to see how that works out. The only reason I can even fathom you're looking at emission trucks Is you wanna haul cans out of Newark.

Nox sensor is half that. I’m mean still high as camel #####, but 400 isn’t a 1,000

That's what the freightliner dealer charged Daimler for the warranty repair
