Recite your brake test script out loud while you are memorizing. Dont just think it, speak it. For me memorizing and speaking are different, not being a natural born speaker, if I know I have to speak something, I have to practice it. Otherwise my memorized brake check test might come out in the form of what I had for breakfast that morning.

Thanks for reminding me how to do a air brake test.
Haven't done one in 20 years.
I just watch the gauges and listen to the air compressor.
If it's kicking on more than it should I know there's a problem

Funny thing is, the number of students who "ace" their pretrip in school and on their CDL test yet still have no clue what they are actually supposed to be checking is probably well over 90%. Sure, you've got the script down...but if I named a part on your little check list, could you put your finger on it? Walking around the truck listing parts you're supposed to make sure aren't "cracked, broken, or missing" doesn't do you a lick of good if you don't know what the part is...and after a time or two, it gets ridiculously pointless to continue your little recitation.

for my pre-trip I go around and touch everything I inspect. Part of the test was to point everything out

That's makes a lot more sense. listening for a leak and watching the gauges instead of knowing a specific amount it can drop.

Congrats, failed my first time around by missing the 4lbs leak test completely.

Went back to DDS a second time and passed the pre trip with a perfect score. 49/49 points.

Good luck with your new career!
