I did. Failed my brake test right out of the gate. Had to reschedule. Nailed my brake test and failed the pretrial. Had to reschedule. Nailed my brake test and pretrial then failed the skills yet.

Had to go retake the written exam to qualify to reschedule. Nailed all of it the next time, including the driving test.

Am I a stable genius or what?

I assume you are pointing out that if you use the clutch in a certain way you would never stall the engine. I thought he was saying the school told us to start in 4th gear. My answer to that is then the school should start off in 4th gear when they take the test. The driver decides which gear to use under the current conditions. I don't know everything but I know how to pass tests and that the only thing important on test days is what the test measures. Few people ever drive after test day like they do on test day.

No shame in failing your CDL test. There is shame in not learning from your mistakes and giving up.

To everyone that replied thank you, your responses have been very helpful and I now have a better understanding when I go test again I aced the 4 point and pre trip and backing maneuvers It was just that dang driving that got me with the stalling in traffic haha but I will try to start off on a lower gear other than 4th.

@tscottme Hmmm well I will take your advice and start off in 2nd gear from the stops im just going to forget about 4th gear for the road test, and you are so right about being worried about the cars behind you I was a nervous wreck! haha but I know now that all that matters is to do everything calmly and safely thanks!

True that brother but I rather get some points deducted rather than automatic fail from stalling a truck haha I mean 30 and its just one hill that we have to go through, so a little bit of points wont hurt.

Here's the thing between real world and driving you own truck and driving the truck YOU OWN. I don't EVER start out in 4th or rarely in 3rd in the truck I OWN.

WHY? Because that would set me up for thousands of dollars in repairs to the clutch, the clutch brake, and possibly the transmission. By the time all is said and done with shop time I might be over $20K in the hole, relative to where I might have been if I engaged my brain before the clutch.

I have driven team with dozens of drivers. The vast majority were recent CDL school graduates. The vast majority of them always tried smoking the clutch in 4th to start moving forward. So.e, including an "experienced" driver with years behind the wheel, would use 4th in tight quarters in a customer yard to jacknife into position to get a trailer into the hole. Clutch brake smoke would be thick in the cab.

When I fully release the clutch there is no stalling. The truck is moving forward at idle speed BEFORE I start applying throttle and start working through the gears (floating, not double clutching).

If I were looking to buy another truck and drive tested a candidate that always started in 4th, I would terminate the drive test and send them home. They would destroy a drive line on steep dirt or mud.
