Pretty bummed, I've taken all the practice test that this forum provides and was pretty confident. Honestly some of the questions I had never come across to, some of them were common sense but had two correct answers and some of them I just flat screwed up on.

Also, the local GA DMV office is here is a joke. The woman (apparently) had never administered a CDL test, could barely speak English and her co-workers were so frustrated with her they wouldn't even help her. I got stuck with her for a honest 30 minutes while she figured the system out and what tests I needed to take. I wanted to take all my endorsements (besides BUS) but I couldn't take HAZMAT for a permit and she didn't put doubles/triples on the test for some reason. I failed General Knowledge test and Combo test, passed the Air Brakes and Tanker.

Anyways, I'm just frustrated because I was expecting to nail it all in one shot. Between being dead tired (newborn) and being nervous I guess it got the best of me. Worst part is that I was so flustered by the whole experience that I didn't even remember which questions I got wrong so I'm not sure how I need to go back about studying.

Also one thing they told me that sounds flat wrong is that a new GA law passed last month is that if only have a CDL permit you can NOT haul cargo unit you get your full license.

I'm gonna get my DOT card next week and try again. Just wanted to vent more than anything else.

Have to read the questions carefully,as they will ask the same question, multiple times with different wording.youll get it,its always easier the second time.

I can understand your frustration. Please understand that driving has to be taught not just studied. Tests are usually administered on a progressive basis. Why worry about about about any other tests if you fail Genera Knowledge ? As far as HazMat, before you take the test you must be Qualified to take that portion.
Regarding hauling freight,,that's one of the purpose of requiring a CDL is to make sure commerce is done in a safe and legal way. There is something left out. Are you going to a school ?

I feel your pain. Try to rest up - read the book again. In PA the Commercial Driver's Manual has test review questions at the end of each section. I read the book every day for a week, concentrating on different sections each time. Last day or 2 I just did the sample questions and re-read the sections if I couldn't remember.

What really sucked is that the CDL PreTrip inspection requirements just changed here, and the DMV is testing on the new requirements, while the CDL Manual still shows the old. They haven't published the new manual yet. Needless to say, the test that I waited 5 weeks to take was a failure.

I paid the price to re-do the test at one of the trucking schools and passed with flying colors.

Study up. You can do this. Just read and re-read until you can do the practice test in your sleep.

    G'Luck!

Look the questions up again, they should all be in the DMV book, if not check to see if the book is expired or if a new one was put out.

I'ld say that's true. Don't worry so much, it's ok to vent but don't psyche yourself out. Wake up with a new attitude and remember what Bill Gates once said..."It's fine to celebrate success, but it's more important to heed the lessons of failure"

you can do like i did when i got my class b permit a few years ago and and review the book in the parking lot before you even go inside the building then once you check in review the book until they are ready to let you use the testing machine. this way when you go to take the test it will be fresh in your memory.

The very first thing you need to do, is to relax. I know it is hard to do, but I also know how easy it is to psyche yourself out over a test! I've never seen a driver's license test, let alone a commercial test, where the folks who designed the test were not sent to us by the devil! They are a sadistic bunch, and they just love to make the wording as confusing as possible. There is a very good chance that you actually KNEW the right answers, but the way it was worded confused you. BTDT. It sucks.

Keep plugging away at it, and you will get it. Perhaps you will get a different examiner next time, but I really don't see why that should make a difference. But one thing that may have made a difference, now that I think about it, is that her confusion, screwed with your mind. It's pretty hard to have confidence in someone, when it is plain that they have no knowledge of what the hell they are doing.

Good luck, you WILL get it.

Well, 59, that's not good. It's not a difficult test. You'll need to prepare more seriously next time. There are manuals you can read, check the GA DMV for resources, but the sample tests here are not going to provide a whole lot of the information you need. Kinda generic and short, know what I mean? (Note: I took the test again last month, got 80%, and I drive every day)

In New Mexico, the MVD uses 6 basic tests, on a random rotating schedule. None of them are very hard. But read Big Don's post. If you do get nervous at tests, careful preparation is the answer to self confidence. Best.
