What are the most common reasons a person fails the road test during orientation?

Not entering and exiting the truck using three points of contact. Not wearing a seat belt. Speeding. Not coming to a full stop at stop signs. Hitting a curb or running over anything while making a turn. Exiting a freeway too fast.

Basically the same things that would have failed you for your cdl test.

On my CDL test I had 7 points.

3 for gears (I just couldn't seem to mesh the gears during the test, even though I was the best shifter in my class)
2 for wide turns (I didn't want to make the mistake of going over a curb again)
1 for traffic check (I think it was when I was in the middle lane with a lot of traffic on both sides going through an intersection, and I was more concerned with the immediate traffic)

and 1 for an incomplete stop. (not sure if I actually rolled through (can't remember doing that), or went over the line a bit(maybe I did))

Just take your time and watch what is going on around you. Do not pull out until it is clear. It does not matter how long you sit there...but if you pull out and it is not clear...you could be done.

    Hitting curbs, vehicles or people...
Consistent inability to find gear without stopping when you miss one...
    Scare instructor badly...
Consistent bad judgment when approaching and then once at intersections...
    Showing no progress...

I'm sure there are others, those are what I was told would make it hard for them to consider me...

as the others have already stated. as for shifting, it will be normal for a newbie to crunch a gear or two...not nice, just normal. they know you ARE NOT fully experienced yet. just take your time, do things as correctly as possible as if it were your DMV road test.

    and above all else,
DO NOT EAT BEANS THE DAY BEFORE......!!!!

I reckon hitting people would accomplish the "scaring the instructor" thing :biggrin_25523:

I will be taking my DMV skills test sometime between Monday and Wednesday. I have to remember I ain't shifting a car :biggrin_2556: Old habits are hard to break when you are old :biggrin_25523:

    -under turning corners
    -rolling back on hill starts
-pulling out into a intersection on a green light and failing to make a safe left turn before the light changed.
    -failure to/insufficient use mirrors
-failure to change gears (alot of green drivers will sometimes be too scared to get out of third gear for the inspector)
    -failure of proper pretrip
