Is is possible to fail an Orientation test??
I have not seen many people do it. I have seen drivers with many years under the belt scratch several gears on an orientation test. It is just one of those things that happen at times in a truck you are not use too.
I scratched one or two in my last one.
I have not seen very many people fail them though, unless they hit something or shift on tracks. -
I've read of several in these forums, but they usually don't say why.

The Number 1 reason for failing an orientation road test would be failing the in cab air brake 7 point test.
I imagine the tester would give plenty of leeway on the pretrip as far as the potential hire forgetting some things involving the suspension, brake, driveline systems, brakes, lights, exhaust, etc.
Next in severity would be the actual driving part like has been said. Did the driver shift in the curve, downhill, over the railroad tracks or in the intersection? Did the driver properly downshift ahead of the right turn and smoothly negotiate said turn without dragging the trailer up on the curb? Was the driver going at a speed approaching the railroad tracks that (s)he could have stopped in time had the crossing arms come down or blow through there nonchalantly? -
This must depend on the state. Our state if the police inspector tell you need to do a gear change and it is safe to do so while in a turn, they will deduct points from your test if you can not do it.
IE from a stop light making a wide left turn you can up one gear on a 13 speed from second to third.
